Susan Chamberlain Shipe celebrates her birthday today. As she marks another year in her life, she sums up her life in one word: Hope. Hope in the Lord. Hope in the life-changing power of His Gospel. She mentors and encourages women to find real hope for their daily lives through Christ and by shining light and truth on His Holy Word.
She weaves and creates beautiful stories of that hope through her blog and many books.
I came to know Susan when I discovered a special Facebook group that she administers with Tobi Sauers: 31 Day Survivors/We’re Better Together. This group continues to encourage me daily in my writing for Christ.
Susan is also a source of hope for me personally that I will succeed in my writing goals to serve Christ. She honored me greatly when she selected a piece that I wrote for inclusion in her book Five Minute Friday: A Collection of Stories Written in Five Minutes Flat.
Kate Motaung, the leader of the Five Minute Friday community, praised Susan for her vision for the book and then for spending countless hours compiling the posts from more than 150 bloggers.

Susan Chamberlain Shipe : Gospel Story, How She Came to Know Christ as Her Savior
I grew up in a Christian home. When I was eight years old I realized my own need of a Savior and accepted Jesus into my heart. As I grew up I took a few side roads but at the age of 42 came full circle and made Jesus Lord of my life. I have never looked back!
Her Favorite Verse and How It Became Important to Her
My life verse is Colossians 1.10
That I may walk worthy of the Lord fully pleasing Him,
bearing good fruit for the eternal Kingdom and increasing in the knowledge of God.
The verse that serves as my life mission statement is 3 John 1:4:
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in Truth.
Her Blogging Story
I have been a writer all my life – as far back as I can remember I loved to write. My friend and I published a neighborhood newspaper when we were eight, called THE MANOR NEWS. We hand-stamped the type with a stamp set bought at the five and dime! In 2008, blogging just seemed the perfect venue for me.
Her Blogging Mission
To speak truth. I’m a faith blogger and 95% of my writing inspiration comes from the Word of God. I also love cooking and I enjoy homemaking; I incorporate all three of these loves into my blog Hope|Heart|Home,

Her Three Favorite Posts
Some of my best writing can be found in my series The 31 Days of Christmas and 31 Days in Proverbs.
What Inspires Her to Write for Christ?
He inspires me! The Word of God is full of treasure and holds the answer to every single life issue. His Word constrains me – it has feet and hands and is actively pursuing me.
Her Favorite Song
Oh my, there are many. I love Bethel music. I love praise and worship music and I’m the lady on the third row at church with her arms in the air and swaying to the music in worship to my Lord & Savior!
Authors Who Inspire Her or Motivate Her to Write
This is rather odd but when I’m actively writing? I don’t read non-fiction, because I don’t want my writing to be influenced by someone else’s words. I don’t read much non-fiction – I like to get lost in good clean fiction. Though, I adore the writings of Oswald Chambers, Brennan Manning, and CS Lewis!
A Personal Blogging Story
No one comes to mind but I always get a lot of great thoughtful comments on my blogs and those comments provoke wonderful pondering thoughts for me and my readers!
Her Blogging Tips
Know your readers. Appreciate your readers. Pray for your readers. Write for your readers. Be attentive to your readers.
Last Minute Thoughts On Inspiration and Uplifting
The theme of my life is HOPE. After walking through several very difficult years in the late 90’s and into the early years of the 21st Century – I found myself feeling hopeless. I sought the Lord and felt as though He had abandoned our family but of course He hadn’t. Slowly but surely I was emerging from a pit of despair and He generously gave me a brand new HOPE. I’ve been writing about it ever since.
Hang on to HOPE! Because? #hopechangeseverything

Mary, I was out of town the day this ran and I am just getting around to seeing it. THANK YOU FOR THE PRIVILEGE & HONOR of being interviewed. My answers are short, unlike the “real” writers you’ve featured before me – but they are sincere and true.
I appreciate the opportunity very much. xo
