Welcome to Maryandering Creatively
Loving Christ and Life
| Me with my granddaughter 🙂 |
Hi, thanks for visiting and subscribing Mary-andering Creatively where you will find nonfiction creative writing, book reviews, photography, and poetry aimed at inspiring women to find Christ and live more fulfilling Christian lives. Also thanks for visiting my “About Me” page. I am Mary Hill, the creator of this blog. I grew up mostly in South Carolina, with a one-year period in Ohio and three-year stint in Southern Florida. I am the second oldest in a family of four children: two girls and two boys.
After working more than 28 years as a news reporter, broadcast copywriter, school librarian, and emergent literacy specialist, I became a a stay-at-home, disabled mom who blogs. I started writing my blog because my counselor suggested I blog as a way to cope with my daily pain. Although I suffer from extreme pain because of arthritis and fibromyalgia, I am blessed that I can write my blog by typing and using speech-to-text technology.
Mary-andering Creatively, however, has grown from a blog about my struggles with pain. It has become a place where I write creatively about my life as well as offer my advice and insights on a range of family and parenting issues. I also love to write poetry and take photographs of the sites and sights I see as I travel and explore.
More importantly, however, as stated before, I write to inspire others to seek out the love of Christ in their lives. My father was an evangelist, pastor, and assistant pastor. His ministry took us to some unusual places. My mother was the person who actually lead me to the Lord. You can read more about my conversion in my poetic testimony.
Just like you, my life has been full of blessings and trials. I am blessed that I was able to attend the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication and Master’s in Library and Information Science.
I have been married twice. My first marriage was one of my trials in life. I suffered an abusive relationship which you can read about in this post on #WhyIStayed. My first husband died in 2003, a year after our divorce. Even despite the abuse, I loved him dearly and still pray to this day that he is in heaven with Christ.
Today, I am blessed to be married to a wonderful man and have one daughter with him. He has a son and two daughters from a prior marriage.
Our life is full of the usual ups and downs, but we are truly blessed. We have a son and daughter-in-law that pastor a church in our area. Our older daughters are working toward careers in the health care industry. Our youngest daughter is a tween in sixth grade. Beautiful and so loving, she is a leader in her school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. We also have three grandchildren, ages 3 months, 5 and 6.
You can read more about my mission, my vision, and my goals for my blog by checking out my Media Kit.

God Bless and Love in Christ.
