Leslie DeJarnette: Mom and Faith Defender for Children

October 18, 2016 By Mary Hill 6 Comments

Leslie DeJarnette, my partner at Literacy Musing Mondays, blesses me weekly with her faithfulness and support. Visit her blog and you will find a mom defender of the faith. She is serious about praying for and helping children find Christ. She is also dedicated about her faith. Her love for Christ guides her everyday life.

I hope you enjoy her profile.

Leslie DeJarnette Biography

I am a devoted wife, mother of three great kids and, most importantly, a follower of Jesus Christ. I love long summer days, photography and stealing quiet moments for writing

Leslie DeJarnette : Gospel story: How she came to know Christ as her Savior.

My parents are Christians and brought me up in the church. At a young age I became curious about why I was never offered the Lord’s Supper on Communion Sundays. My parents explained that particular ordinance was for people who had accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. They told me that I was a sinner in need of a Savior, and that Jesus had died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sin. Best of all, He rose again on the third day proving that our God is alive and holds power over death. I gave my heart to Jesus that day, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made!

Her Favorite Verse and How It Became Important to Her

James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,

who does not change like shifting shadows.

This verse is particularly meaningful to me because it always gives me pause to meditate on the best gift from our heavenly Father: salvation offered through our Savior Jesus Christ. After I’ve filled my heart with praises for this most excellent gift, I just start marveling at all the other blessings God has bestowed on me. Thankfulness of this type breeds contentment in my heart.

Her Blogging Story

I began blogging as a way to connect with other writers and as a way to share my faith. I aspire to one day publish Christian children’s fiction, and I love learning about how others have succeeded.

Her Blogging Mission

My blogging mission is to proclaim the glory of God while developing my writing skills.

Her Three Favorite Posts

Actually, my three most popular posts are also personal favorites. Other posts I love include:

1. Final Friday Family Faves.

Analyzing our favorite books of the month and preparing this monthly feature has become a highlight of my blogging. All our favorites are special, but our choices this July really took the cake!

2,  Forever Joyful Even When Your Child Is Sick

This post fleshes out the truth behind my blog name “Forever Joyful” while sharing about my son’s medical journey, which is ever near and dear to my heart.

3. The Number One Book People Are Talking About Right Now

What Inspires Her to Write for Christ?

Christ is my everything, and I am constantly seeking to ensure He remains on the throne of my life in the midst of all the distractions of our crazy world. Writing just gives me one more chance to reflect on His goodness.

Her Favorite Song

I’ve never been good at picking favorites! I love any song that lifts up Christ. Other than that, I’ve been enjoying studying guitar alongside my grade school son. We keep each other motivated. I learned some chords in college, but I’m learning styles now that are completely new to me. My goal is to be good enough to lead worship for a group of adults in one year’s time!

Authors Who Inspire Her  or Motivate Her to Write

There are too many inspiring authors to name. C.S. Lewis, John Piper, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Janet and Geoff Benge all come to mind. Last year I wrote a post about The Five Most Life-Changing Books I’ve Read in the Last Five Years. Naturally, all those authors are winners!

A Personal Blogging Story

Get started and be consistent. Blogging is a discipline just like anything else worth doing.

Thanks so much for featuring me, Mary. I absolutely love the title you gave my bio, although I’m sure I’m not worthy of such a fantastic title. Makes me aspire to live up to defending the faith for our kids daily! Blessings to you!
