Teri Lynne Underwood : Biography
I’m Teri Lynne Underwood. A few years ago a friend described me as an “idea slinger” and I’ve decided that’s the best descriptor I can use. I love to discuss possibilities and dream up ideas. I’m an ENFP if you’re into Myers Briggs and an Enneagram 3. Which basically means I don’t mind being in the spotlight, and I tend to be a people pleaser (something I have to guard against!). I’ve been married to Scott, a worship pastor, for 20 years and we have a 16-year-old daughter, Casiday. We live in north Alabama and cheer for the Auburn Tigers. I am a columnist for our local paper as well as a blogger. My first traditionally published book, Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most will release in Fall 2017 from Bethany House. I am also a speaker at women’s ministry events which I really love!

At the age of four, I made my profession of faith during a tent revival at Rock Creek Baptist Church. While I certainly didn’t have a deep theological knowledge, I knew I was a sinner in need of salvation. I was, however, at best a marginal Christian throughout most of my teenage and young adult life. At 24, I recommitted my life to the Lord and have been faithfully serving Him ever since.
Her Favorite Verse and How It Became Important to Her
Oh wow … favorite verse? I have so many verses that have deeply impacted me. But my life verse is Psalm 19:14:
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
As someone who spends most of her life playing with words, my consistent and fervent prayer is that what I say (and write) will be rooted in a heart that longs to please the Lord in every way.
Her Blogging Story
I started blogging waaaay back in 2006 on MySpace. (Anyone remember that?) I moved to Xanga and then to Blogger before finally making the jump to WordPress in 2010. Like many, I started blogging as a way to record our family’s adventures. But I quickly realized it was a great creative outlet for a stay-at-home-mom who loved the Word. I began transitioning from a family blog to a ministry blog in 2009.

My hope and aim is to encourage busy women and girl moms to be confident to study and apply biblical truth. I have an affinity for the busy among us because I am busy too! On my personal website I write primarily about faith, family, and full lives. In 2015, I launched Prayers for Girls, a website for girl moms who want to raise daughters who chase after Jesus.

What Inspires Her to Write for Christ
I am passionate about the Word of God and its power to change our hearts! More than anything I want to encourage others to find a deep love for the Lord and His Word. From that passion, I have learned how valuable it is to help women be confident to study and apply the Word and I love sharing inspiration and resources for that purpose.

My all-time favorite song is the old hymn, “My Jesus, I Love Thee.” My current favorite song is “No Longer Slaves.” {video}
Authors Who Inspire Her or Motivate Her to Write
I am deeply inspired by writers who are excellent storytellers like Calvin Miller and C.S. Lewis. I love Elizabeth George’s books and often say she has been my mentor though we’ve never met. I have so many friends who are creating the most beautiful and challenging books right now. Women like Stacey Thacker and Denise Hughes who are pushing women to dig deep into the Word and find the faithfulness of God in their lives. Tricia Goyer’s consistency is a motivation to me and she has been such a huge cheerleader for me as a writer and friend.

Oh wow … I think the most important thing is to remember why you write. It’s all for His glory to and to make His name known! Within that context, the most helpful things I’ve learned include be consistent and be honest. If you can only write once a week, that’s fine. But write once a week every week. And be honest. Share your successes and your failures with your readers. Oh and remember this, you are writing to PEOPLE not numbers!! Be yourself!!!
