SweetLeaf Stevia: Weight Loss Tool

March 25, 2015 By Mary Hill 9 Comments

I am continuing on my Weight Loss Journey of 2015 to good health. I want to share with you a new tool in my arsenal: SweetLeaf Stevia. I hope you enjoy my product review.

Continuing my weight loss adventure!

Continuing my weight loss adventure!

I have not kept it a secret this year. I am obese and have a mountain in front of me that needs to be removed:  90 pounds. To my shame, I started the year at 257 pounds. My life has been one of pain and shame. Disabled with arthritis, I found it hard to move and exercise. I don’t know what happened on January 1 of this year, but I was quite frankly tired of the pain and how I looked in the mirror and determined to make a change.

I am a Southern woman who loves sweet tea. You know the rich, syrupy kind. Sweet and tan with lots of ice. I love it so much I drank five to six 12 ounce glasses a day. I always had a glass filled with sweet sugary tea. My biggest hurdle to my goal is was sweet tea.

Doctors, however, will tell you that the most important thing you have to cut out when you want to make a drastic change in your health and weight is cane sugar and carbs. They really take a toll on your metabolism and health. I knew to kick start my weight loss adventure that I needed to kick my sweet tea habit. I will be honest with you just the thought of not having my sweet tea depressed me at first. I was that much of a sweet tea addict.

I heard of Stevia on one of my favorite daytime medical shows in January. During the program, the host said Stevia was safe, and he highly recommended it for his weight loss program. About the same time, I learned of Moms Meet and signed up for their blogging program because guess what one of  their featured products was for the month? SweetLeaf Stevia.

The timing could not have been more perfect. I was excited because I knew I had found a great weapon to battle my sweet tea addiction: SweetLeaf Stevia. I signed up to sample the product through the the Moms MeetSM program. I recently received the package below.

They sent me a box of the individual sweetner packets along with their Sweet Drops. I wished they had asked my preferences. I didn’t like the flavors they sent: Pumpkin Spice
and Peppermint Mocha. It is not that they weren’t great. I tried them in my coffee and they were! I just wish they had sent Chocolate or Chocolate Rasberry or Dark Chocolate. Be still my heart. These are actual flavors that are available from SweetLeaf.com and on SweetLeaf’s Amazon Page.

I also tried the berry and orange flavors. I really liked how they flavored my water. I don’t like lemon so I gave this away to a friend who loves it.

The best part of the package was the 35 packet box of Sweet Leaf Organic Stevia. I tried it in my sweet tea right away. It was not as good as the real thing. Sorry. Here is the thing though. I really needed to give up Southern Sweet Tea for my health. So I stuck it out. It grows on you. I haven’t had sugar cane sweet tea in over a month. I know it is better for my health because as of Sunday I weighed, now wait for it ……. 232 pounds: If you do the math, that is 25 pounds less than I did at the beginning of the year!

Sweet Leaf Stevia, a great asset in my weight loss battle.

SweetLeaf Sweet Drops for water and coffee

The berry sweet drops are my favorite.

I really believe substituting sugar cane with Stevia has made a big difference.  I don’t drink Southern sweet tea anymore. I have to give it up for my health and well-being. Sugar was killing me. My weight increased my suffering with arthritis to the point that I struggled to get out of a chair.

I still do. I know I will always struggle with pain and mobility issues, but when I get this weight off it will lessen, I will be able to enjoy life more. I have a long way to go to my goal, but I plan to keep Stevia in my arsenal to make that goal.

What about you? How are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions for change? What obstacles have you faced? Be sure to share in the comments.

I made this with calorie free soda water and 7-UP (only 1/4 cup) and added strawberries to the top. Let sit five to 10 minutes to let the fizzyness of the water extract the strawberry flavor. Not quite as good as Southern ice tea, but close. ;)

I can identify with your journey to lose weight. A little over a year and a half ago I weighed 235 pounds. Since then I have lost 70 pounds by counting calories and carbs and walking. It was a lot of hard work but it was worth it. I feel much better and am off my blood pressure medicine and my triglyceride medicine. I know you will be able to meet your goal. Just don’t get discouraged, and there are times that you will need to splurge. That is ok, just get right back on schedule and y will be great. I am pulling for you.

Congrats on the weight loss. I can’t believe you have lost 25lbs just be cutting out sugar. I think I am going to have to check into this stevia thing. My drink of choice is coffee with sugar 24/7 with the occasional water or sweet tea.

Keep up the great work. I have lost 22lbs since October but I have only been watching my fat gram intake and calories.

I have a three prong approach: diet, exercise, and worship. I have a post today about the exercise part. 🙂

Mary, great idea. I am hoping to lose weight as well, so this is a great addition to my arsenal as I am not that fond of drinking just plain water. I wonder how long one of those small bottles will last?
