I felt like a failure as I sat in my room, thinking about my daughter. I embarrassed her when I didn’t trust her. I told her to tell someone something before I dropped her off at an event. Then, I got out of the car and went to the person and told her myself, not trusting my daughter to relay the message.
My daughter felt hurt because I lacked faith in her. I didn’t trust her to carry out my instructions. She had just obeyed me, and I made a fool out of her. I looked at her, and when I saw her face, I realized my mistake.
Have you been there? Can you relate.
I felt like such a bad mom at that moment. My daughter earned my faith over and over again. Why did I doubt her?
How do you overcome as a parent when you fail? When you let your children down?
How you overcome failure in all areas of your life: as a mother, spouse, friend, and employee?
Other Areas of Failure to Conquer
Failure raises its ugly head in many areas in my life. Last month, I talked about my goals, my resolutions, and My Word for the Year: Breakthrough and my desire to listen more intently.
I look back over my progress now that it is February.
I lag in the areas of weight loss, growing closer to Christ, strengthening my marriage, being a better mom. The list grows … if I let it.
Wallowing in failure is never God’s attention. He gives grace. He gives Life. He provides victory.
He furnishes and builds into us the attributes we need to succeed. His Holy Spirit endows us with power and drive to fulfill Christ’s goals in our lives.
Look at listing failure as an opportunity to inventory areas for improvement in your life. Proceed with caution, however, so that failure does not trap in you in a web of shame. Your inventory becomes marring and inhibits your victory then.
Real Steps to Conquer Failure
First, we need to look at problems and areas of doubt as God’s path to happiness. His Holy Spirit nudges us in areas that He sees are holding us back from true victory.
Remember we are all human. We all fail and falter. These stumbles make us human not failures.
Take a long hard look at the areas in which you want to conquer and breakthrough.
February is a great month to dust off your resolutions that you list at the beginning of the year. Where do you see success? Have you dropped some of your goals out of feelings of doubt or shame?
Pick yourself up, dust off your feelings of unworthiness, and open your Bible.
Breaking Though Failure Forever
Scriptures can provide you an arsenal to overcome, breakthrough, and end the failure trap forever.
Overcoming failure involves journeying out of the land of shame and realizing Christ paid it all so that we fulfill our destinies in Him. He gives us all we need to breakthrough and overcome failure.
The next time you feel failure creep in remember these key scriptures:
Luke 1:37
For with God nothing shall be impossible.
He lived through every trial, every type of failure for us. He understands how we feel when we feel defeated. When you feel like you can’t go on. Remember, Christ went through so much more than we could ever have endured.
He did this all for us. He conquered death and the grave. He set examples for us in all areas including: how to parent, how to be a better spouse; and how to overcome temptation.
He sent His Holy Spirit to comfort us. Indwell this scripture into your heart:
1 John 5:4-5
Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory.
No one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God.
Romans 8:37
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him that loved us.
Start by remembering God gives us all things. He gifts us with our children, our spouse, our homes.
Another import truth to cling to involves not becoming Christ to others in our desire to see them happy and successful.
We can’t be perfect parents. Take this word into your hearts and let it free you. We are perfect only in Christ who died for us.
Talk openly with your children about the fact you are not perfect but you have a perfect God in your life who guides you and uses even your mistakes to perfect you.
I recall in my mind the look of dismay on my daughter’s face when I embarrassed her.
Later I took her aside and told her simply how sorrow I was. I am not perfect, but she has a perfect God who will provide for her. Who will lead her through her life if she will just call on Him.
Speaking God’s Word Conquers Failure
Memorizing key scriptures can help you realize victory in so many areas of your life.
Live Philippians 4:13 daily.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
I will parent better and bare fruit in my daughter’s life. You can too.
We must remember in parenting and in marriage, we build each others faith up.
When we are weak, we can buttress one another. We provide shielding for one another.
We speak words of encouragement to one another.
We become cheerleaders for each other.
We speak love, truth, and things of beauty into each other’s heart.
We don’t bring up failures constantly. We seek to emphasize where each other succeed.
Remember, that pointing out the successes will minimize failures. Our children have God-given talents. Trust in those talents to help them overcome and find their own victories in life.
Make studying the Word of God with your children a daily priority! Put the word of God in their heart and trust it to create in them the foundation they need to build strong character.
I love this scripture because it is what I seek to do in my household.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Always remember these commands that I give you today. 7 Be sure to teach them to your children. Talk about these commands when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road. Talk about them when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them on your hands and wear them on your foreheads to help you remember my teachings. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.
I literally do this in my life. I hang God’s word everywhere for my daughter and grandchildren to see: over my microwave and even my shower curtain

Prayer Will Conquer Failure
Finally, never forget prayer when you want to conquer and overcome.
Set time aside to pray daily. Record your prayers in a simple notebook or find a good prayer journal.
1 John 5:14
This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
1 Chronicles 16: 11
Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.
Ephesians 6:18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
In conclusion, you can conquer failure through daily walking out the scriptures in your life; by not wallowing in failure but using your mistakes to catapult you to new understanding and victories; by letting Christ reign in your life and the life of your children; and by literally hanging scriptures throughout your home to help you remember God is at work in your life and the lives of your loved ones. Finally, by praying His scriptures daily and taking the time to journal your concerns and prayers.

Oh my, Mary! Been there and done that with my kids too. And you might think the failures would stop when they grow into young adults, but I’m finding that is far from the truth. That’s when they begin to realize, in their newfound adult wisdom, ALL the ways you messed up with them and yet are still too naive to realize how easy it is for parents (humans!) to fail and sin. ha! I’m thankful for the wisdom you’re sharing with us in this regard to encourage us through those painful moments in parenting. I hope you’re are feeling much better today! Sending prayers on your behalf!
