Celebrating Unexpected Blessings

November 1, 2017 By Mary Hill 11 Comments

Discovering Gratitude in

Small, Daily Miracles &

Unexpected Blessings

A Poem For 30 Days of Gratitude

Rain drizzles to the ground; and dark clouds float through the sky.

Cold seeps my bones.

Then suddenly, the sun breaks through

Flowers brighten; herbs smell sweetly on my wagon.

Surviving the first frost.

Unexpected blessings linger everywhere

My daughter’s beauty shines despite her morning grumpiness.

Business fills my day as I rush here and there running errands for my family.

My family….. a husband whose embrace warms me and whose smile fills me with joy.

Pets that pitter-patter through the house.

A sweet friend found in a little dog who cannot be separated from me and

Insists on jumping in bed at night to snuggle.

Bibles and books fill my living room table with inspiring reads.

Music swirls in the air; songs of praise and beauty

I find unexpected blessings everywhere.

Ephesians 5:19-20  (ASV)

Speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,

singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;

20 giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;

As we approach the Holy Season of Advent, first I fix my mind on thankfulness. Thankfulness is a state of being. It is part of the cross that we deliberately choose to pick up each day as we follow Christ. To celebrate Thankfulness, I have created a Fall Bible study and journey that I invite you to join with me.

As I write this series, I am also joining Jennifer Dukes Lee’s 30 Days of Gratitude Challenge. Her beautiful graphic below lists 30 daily gratitude topics on which I will base each day’s post this month.

Even though the posts will be short, I plan to pack them with inspiration and Scriptural truths as we lead up to the Thanksgiving holidays and then flow into Christmas. This series is my gift to you.

    EVERYWHERE! Just needing to keep my eyes open…both of the heart and the eyes of on my head! I kept a list of those many little and big things I found to lead to gratitude. I have once again begun my list. God is truly all over!

    Your poem is wonderful.

    I love the poem, and 30 days of gratitude! We truly do have so much to be thankful for, it’s the little things, if we’ll just open our eyes

    Beautiful list of blessings! Love despite morning grumpiness – I could hear your dog’s patters – my Sadie patters from window to window (golden retriever), looking for opportunities to herald arrivals of any kind of animal or person no matter the time. She is our hospitality committee (not a protector). Thank you for leaving such a sweet list. God is always abundant in his daily blessings!
