Authors Wendy Speake and Kelli Stuart
I had the honor to meet Wendy Speake at the Alume Conference in 2014. She and I sat together at one of luncheons and discussed writing goals.
When I saw her book listed on LitFuse, I signed up immediately for the launch team. I love her blog and writing. I learned so much from reading this inspiring book, entitled Life Creative, Inspiration for Today’s Renaissance Mom coauthored by Wendy and her friend, Kelli Stuart..
One of the most important lessons involves the fact that there are seasons for the Life Creative. As the authors quote:
There is an appointed tie for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven. (Eccl.3: 1)
Another important lesson is that we can use our creative bent to reveal the Gospel to others. They included real life examples of how women are serving the gospel from cooks who prepare beautiful recipes to share with the homeless to artists who create wonderful works that illustrate the Gospel in clay, paint, and pastel.
The most important lesson of all is that even as we create our blog posts, books, artistic and culinary inspired pieces of love, we have a God that loves us as his masterful creation. Not just a simple creation, we are God’s poem, the authors write. I just loved that image don’t you?
The book moves on speaking other truths in my mind: I am sanctified in Christ and so is my art. I must set aside sanctified times to spend working on art yet I must remember that as a mother I must lay down my art to focus on mothering. When I resume my artistic creating, I must remember that the very act of creation is worship.
The practical also blends with the magical in the book as the speak of the importance of artistic creation on the Internet and as a business.
No matter your creative edge, this book has a special message for moms who seek to live a renaissance life of art and worship.
