Sharing and Exploring Friday Blog Hops

July 19, 2013 By Mary Hill 16 Comments

Dear  Reader: You probably have noticed that I have begun moderating my comments. In this day and age, it is necessary. I had a comment appear by an anonymous reader that lead to a very questionable site with malware and probably inappropriate material that I would not want associated with my blog.  I quickly approve all comments submitted if they are from legitimate readers. You can criticize me and disagree with me in your comments, and I will publish them. I will not publish spam that could put my readers or my computer in jeopardy. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Seasonal Blogging

Friendship Friday
http://www.create-with-joy.com/2013/07/friendship-friday-seasonal-blogging.html

Today’s questions and topics:  That’s what this week’s questions are all about!

  • Do the seasons tend to impact your blogging habits?
  • Do you tend to blog steadfastly year round, or do you blog less at certain times?
  • Are you blogging more, less or the same than usual this summer?
Please share your thoughts with us this Friendship Friday!

I am not a seasonal blogger per say, yet. I have not had any ebbs or flows. I just started blogging in February and even then I didn’t get off the ground until March and April. I really got rolling in May.  I have had down times with my blogging. I am so new to this. Sometimes, when I have only one or two comments on a day, I wonder did I do something wrong with my post?  Then, I try to figure out how I can make my posts more interesting. I am in a learning mode still right now.

What seasons are you more active in publishing on your blog?  How do you keep your content updated and fresh for your readers? Share your great ideas.

Friday Flash Blog on The Jenny Evolution
http://www.thejennyevolution.com/friday-flash-blog-party-no-27/

Here are some great blog post, I enjoyed this week. Hope you like them too.

  • I discovered Suzanne’s blog this week because she commented on my Thursday post. Her comment was not only educational but also encouraging.  It came at a time that I needed the validation.  I went over to her blog to return her support, and I discovered to my wonderment a very interesting and diverse blog.  I really enjoyed the following post:
Storm Clouds at Sunset over Saint George's Thoroughfare Bay, Brigantine, New Jerseyhttp://www.boomeresque.com/seriously-smitten-by-sunsets-in-brigantine-new-jersey-a-photo-essay-mostly/#comment-20896

  • http://loveandlaundryblogwordpress.com/2013/07/17/collective-sorrow-and-value-of-empathy/   Inspiring look at the tragic death of  Trayvon Martin along with some deep thoughts to ponder.
  • Kay at California Diva featured a too cute post this week. Who can say no to cute puppies:

  • Just Breathehttp://wwwforyourtears.blogspot.com/   This is a beautiful yet simple idea to help grieving mothers. I just love her blog too.  http://skyesofblue.blogspot.com/p/my-blogs.html

My favorite on the list:  21. Kick people in the shins who tell you it’ll “go by so fast.” It won’t stop them from saying it, but it’ll feel soooooo good.”

This Week’s Prompt: Belong

Belong

Go:  1:55 a.m.

It is late, and I sit in my daughter’s room contemplating the word “belong.”  When we belong somewhere or to someone, we find home.

Poem

Belonging is a life-long pursuit.
It is like trying to find happiness and joy wrapped up in belonging to a place, a someone, a time.
We all long to belong somewhere. We all long for love.
Belonging is equated with loving, especially in marriage.
I belong to my husband and he belongs to me. We will grow old together. We will always belong together.
I want to belong to my God. I am His daughter and He is my father. I crawl up into His lap and listen for His heart beat and to feel His love.
Holy is His name and I long to belong to Him forever. Amen.

Finish the Sentence Friday
http://www.janinehuldie.com/2013/07/finish-the-sentence-friday-blog-hop-28/
Sponsored by Janine at JanineHuddle.com, this hop is fun. Each week we get a sentence to finish. This week’s sentence is “In Church a Place of Worship, I learned to :

  • to reverence God and His house.  I learned to sing joyous songs about His love.  I learned to read His word and to pray.  I learned to worship Him.  I have learned so much and still learn everyday as I walk with  Christ.  What did you learn in church? Thanks for reading. Join this hop and share.

Firefly Beach

http://www.blondeundercoverblonde.com
A beautiful story of love and discovery. One of my favorite moments because of the sadness and poignancy of the situation. I cried with the young woman in this scene:

“Mom died thirteen years ago. Thirteen years on the thirteenth.  I hardly remember her. Dad assumed I was sullen all day because of Mom’s death.  We went to her grave. But I was numb inside. I might as well have been lying in the grave right next to her, in a barren plot of land Dad purchased thirteen years ago. My final      resting place … my destiny.”

Good Reads summary:

When Beth LaMonte rents a cottage on the coast of Maine, she wishes only to withdraw and paint. A mysterious ball of light disturbs her peace and leads her to a secret beach where she finds the diary of a girl who disappeared in 1975. Now Beth is on a mission, not only to bury her own past, but to put to rest the spirit of Firefly Beach.

As I finalize today’s post, I hear the baby Mockingbirds squeal and then silence. I assume Momma must be bringing breakfast.  Those little birds have been a blessing all week.  I will miss them when they fly away.  We all grow and move on though.  It is part of life. Don’t their beaks look like little flowers?

Hi! I was going to reply to your comment from my blog, but you are actually a no reply blogger, which means that your e-mail isn’t linked to your account, if you’d like to fix that, this is a good link!: http://storyofmylifetheblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-rant-about-blogger-comments-are-you.html

anyway, i’ve seen a lot of people doing friday’s letters, but i don’t know if they always link up.. i found where it originated from beth at hangonhoney.com & it links to the sweet season blog – she didn’t post one yesterday, but she did have one last week which you can find here: http://www.thesweetseasonblog.com/2013/07/fridays-letters.html (sorry, i’m not sure how to hyperlink in the comment box!!)

I understand what you mean about blogging – it’s really hard when we write something and nobody reads it (or comments). I thought you’d been doing it much longer than February so that means you must be doing something right! And I love what you learned in church. Also, the book you’re reading sounds amazing.

Mary, thank you for sharing my blog, Boomeresque, and for saying that you found it “diverse and interesting”. I certainly have my moments when I’m convinced I’m boring my readers to tears.

If it’s OK (and now that you moderate, you can zap this if it’s not!), I’d like to invite your readers who are also bloggers to contribute a post to a blog carnival (same as a hop as far as I can tell) that is collecting and sharing blog posts on the theme, “Travels Down Memory Lane”. The post should be one already published on the blogger’s blog, so the link will send readers back to their blog. This monthly blog carnival is sponsored by a FB group to which I belong called: Boomer Travel Bloggers. However, contributions to the blog carnival certainly don’t have to come from Baby Boomers. But, while I’m on the subject, if you are chronologically a Baby Boomer (or just an old soul of any age who likes to travel), you can ask to join the FB group. I’ve found it very non-judgmental and supportive. Anyway, back to the Travels Down Memory Lane blog hop, you can find it and link up at: http://www.boomeresque.com/enjoy-these-travels-down-memory-lane/

The birds are cute. Belonging is a life long dream and a great accomplishment, lovely poem. The puppy is the cutest. I’m blogging more this year in general and that’s partially thanks to a blogging schedule that keeps me on the mark. Not a seasonal blogger at all. You always find interesting bloghops and blogs to share Mary. Enjoy your weekend.

Wow, that is a ton of blog hops, I’m going to check out the ones I haven’t seen before.
The moderation can be a necessary evil, I found that when I changed to intense debate as opposed to the default blogger platform, it really reduced spam. That said, I’m getting ready to start deleting comments that just say “follow me back” ’cause they drive me crazy.
    Happy Friday!

I love the poem – especially the longing to belong to God. I think this is just universal, a longing we all have somewhere inside. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t allow anonymous comments so I don’t have this problem anymore. I can sure understand why you’ve done this though. Don’t blame you one bit.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂
