Longing for The Peace and Rest on His Beautiful Shores

June 24, 2016 By Mary Hill 2 Comments

Tonight, I listen to the fan blades hum and crickets chirp.  A hot peace surrounds me as I contemplate writing for five minutes about the word “rest.” I am joining Kate Motaung and the Five Minute Friday crew to write. This week’s prompt: rest.

Longing For the Peace and Rest on His Beautiful Shores

Peace and rest compares to hot summer day lounging at the beach or lake shore, but today I am home listening to the tumble of the dryer. Oh to find rest!

Today is a hot, summer day.  98 degrees Hot!

Trying to find coolness and rest is a challenge especially when the heat defeats my air conditioner.

Especially when I worry about chores, shopping, and readying for a weekend softball tournament.

Sitting in the hot with my aches and pains. Trying to get up from a low seat without embarrassing myself. Stiff and nervous, praying to make it through the day.

Rest alludes…. Peace flees

But, if I breathe and remember Him and His promises.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” He calls.

Have I abandoned His rest and peace to trying and striving?

I lean into Him and let go.

Stop

We all seek peace and love in this world. How do we find that restful peace in the business of our days? How do we find it when we want to give in and give up?

How do we make Matthew 11:28 a reality in our lives?

Some points I have learned through the years:

  • Let go of pursuit of perfection. Seeking perfection in our lives robs us of rest and joy. Only one is perfect and that is Christ.
  • Realize that no ideal situation exists in our world.
  • Find beauty in the imperfect pieces.
  • We all struggle; we all fail, but we can find Grace and Rest in Him.
  • He is perfect and knew firsthand all our struggles, weaknesses, and failures.
  • A perfect God loves me. He loves you. Find peace and rest in His perfect love, forgiveness and grace.

    Hi Mary,
It’s hot where I am too, and it’s winter here in Australia. I’m traveling.
Thanks for coming to the Blogger’s Pit Stop Linky Party last week.

Leaning into Him and letting go: such a beautiful picture of what God calls us to. May we find courage to do that very thing every day! Thanks, Mary, for your gift of beautiful words and God-oriented thoughts.
