The world is this dark lonely place
Where evil creeps in wait
Hoping to trap the helpless, lost, the lonely
Yes, sometimes, we make mistakes.
Yes, sometimes, we take wrong turns
Maybe, we deserve our fate.
There but the grace of God
Go You
Go I
We all deserve evil fates
We all deserve the fruits of our bad decisions
Sometimes we are able to come out unscathed
But not all can
The drug addict sits on the roadside
With sign
“Will work for food.”
How do we show compassion?
Most will slip him a five thinking
They have done the right thing
He has enough money to get his next fix, not food
The homeless sick woman
Walks around muttering to herself
Lost in delusions of paranoia, schizophrenia
We ignore her and cross to the other side
The thugs get her and hurt her in the night.
Where was our compassion?
Compassion is so hard to show.
Compassion is so illusive
So hard to capture
But we have an example of how we must act
On a tree called Calvary
A man stretched out His arms
“Father forgive them; they know not what they do.”
Forgive the criminal for his evil deeds
He was a child once
Beat and battered
Caught up in a life of no choices
Told to take the easy road out
Dare to show him the better way
Not a hand out, but love
Take the woman by the hand
Talk sweetly too her
Give her food, shelter, and warmth
Beg your congressman to fund
Homes for the mentally ill
Take the drug addict food
And offer him a ride
To the treatment center
Give him options to help himself
To leave the streets
Be faithful
Stretch your arms out far and wide
On your crosses of love
Pick them up daily, faithfully
Try to find a way to open your heart
To compassion today.
Take small steps
Take large ones
Get involved
Use the talents you have at hand
Create sweet blankets for the babies and
Young children having chemo at the
Children’s Hospital
Bake brownies for the youth centers
Where volunteers are trying to reach the young
Before they become the thugs bent on evil
Take the stances for compassion’s side
Support funding schools, youth centers,
And safe homes for the mentally ill
Support programs that help and heal
Compassion is a daily choice.
It is picking up your cross
Faithfully, praying and meditating
Asking the One True and Faithful Spirit, Christ
Where do I need to go today to serve?
“Have compassion for all beings, rich and poor alike; each has their suffering. Some suffer too much, others too little.”- Buddha
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, – Apostle Paul Colossians 3:12
We must never minimize the suffering of another. Scripture’s mandate to us is, “Weep with them that weep.” (Romans 12:15, KJV) – Billy Graham
Also joining Five Minute Friday and Two Shoes Tuesday today where bloggers write for five minutes on a one word prompt. The word prompts are “Open” and “Faithful.”
Another hop I am joining is :
I spend my #FringeHours blogging about hope, love, and compassion. I want to spread a message that points all to the one I love above all, my Savior Jesus Christ. He is the reason I breathe. He is the reason I live. My desire is all accept Him. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the faithful, true giver of compassion.
Sharing with these other great hops as well:

Compassion so beautifully rendered in your poem. We do need to open our arms wide. I saw an early screening of the film, Do You Believe?’ The film also has a message of compassion.

We will barely survive without compassion. We need it so direly. 🙂

Mary, thank you. Compassion.
As I reached out the car window, I thought “don’t touch his hand as he stands here on the corner begging.” Eye to eye we met as our hands brushed each other…Then the corners of his blue-green eyes smiled a beatific smile and bored deep into mine. I heard at the core of my spirit, “You just touched the hand of God,.”
Surely there are angels walking among us offering an opportunity to step into the presence of our KING.
WOW! Thank you for joining the dance. Please plan to #DanceWithJesus each week.

A beautiful and powerful reminder to take up your cross and follow Him, the perfect model of compassion. Look at the people he reached out to… the sinners not the saints. You said it so well here, do what you can do, don’t put your money in the envelope and feel smugly that you’ve done your part, give from your time, talents and heart! That is what it means to be faithful to our faith!
Wow! That’s a beautiful poem! Loved it! Mary – you brought life to the words you penned..

“Compassion is a daily choice” – I like it. Beautiful poem.
God has a way back for every individual. Praying the love of God spill into those that struggle, that the Holy Spirit fill them up, giving them strength to overcome things that control them other than God. You are so right – we so need to love each other.
