Memories Swirl Like Time Ribbons in My Mind
Memories are real and like ribbons that flow from today and connect me to my past. They’re tangible and unlike my dreams worth so much more.
I dreamed last night that I was back in my school library. Students were lined up around the school waiting to check out books, and water was rising in the library about to wipe all of us away.
I remember the laughter of one of our booktalk sessions during afternoon book club. I invited our local youth librarian from the public library and an English teacher from each grade level to make up our panel of Booktalk Idol judges.
One of them pretended to be Randy, “Hey, dog, that was good, but maybe you could have given us a more emotional scene to draw us in.”
We laughed and ate snacks. I gave away a basket of prizes to the booktalk winner.
Now, I am a blogger and write about books, spiritual poetry, my walk with Jesus, and lessons I am still learning daily in my retired life. My blogging is not a job although I probably make it seem like one. My blogging is therapy. After all my therapist told me to start blogging as an outlet from my pain.
Blogging memories, scenes, connecting ribbons in my mind: past, present and future. My blogging creates these mind webs of memories and helps me stay sane when the pain gives me nightmares.
This post is my sixth entry for THE MARCH SOLSC! #SOL16.
I will also join several of the hops listed on my Link-up Parties page.
Note: This post first ran in March 2014.

Thank you for the image of memories like ribbons that are all connected. It makes me think that our stories are all connected too when we recognize that God is the Author. How wonderful that God reveals these ribbons as we look to deepen our relationship with Him?

These ribbons of memory and emotion really touched me. I started blogging at my QueendSheena blog to connect with other writers and expand myself. Today it is so much more and I have met many online friends including you Mary. 🙂

I love the image of ribbons swirling . I too find writing to be so good for my soul. Booktalk Idol… AHHHHHHH that’s fabulous, and the Randy line is just great.
Not only do I love the imagery, but it makes me wonder how I visualize my memories. I found – I really don’t, not in a visual way. Scent, smell, triggers so many of my memories. Maybe my memories are like – a ribbon like aroma?
Wafting ribbons? Smells can bring back memories for me sometimes, but I think it is more sight and sounds that bring back moments to my mind.

It sounds like you created lots of fun in your library. Your writing is very hopeful despite the challenges you are facing.
Ruth thanks. I try to be hopeful in my writing and also play with language for effect.

Your comment surprises me and doesn’t surprise me:
” I can’t seem to get it going strong like I want”
It seems to me that writing eludes me and that only once in awhile do I write something that makes me think, “yes! that was it!.”
Perhaps we could rephrase your comment to a therapeutic question:
If my blog was strong what would I be writing about? What do I really want? What do I really want to say?
Scary. I hope you find yourself writing strong the way you want.
I love your writing and your blog title, Mary. Looking forward to reading more of your writing.
You are such a wonderful writer. I hope the blog has been a great outlet for you.
You have a nice analogy, love the phrase “mind webs of memories”. You make me want to visit your next book talk, sounds fun.
Thank you for the kind words Patricia. I am glad you liked my analogy.
