I don’t know where or what I want to say today. Yesterday it was hard to write and hard to think as I watched events unfold on my television. I could say L is for life, life lost. M is for metaphor and N is for newness. O stands for overcome.
I don’t know where this will lead me tonight. I am just going to write my heart and see where my heart wonders.
An April morning dawn busts through with promises anew
Hopes and dreams of running and overcoming
Peace and love walk hand in hand down an avenue
Their thoughts are sad and musing
They know the calamity Hate is about to bring.
Life full of promise, smiles and bright eyes.
He skips or runs, who knows what the little boy would do
The morn of his father’s marathon?
He more than likely had a chest bursting with pride and excitement.
His name, Martin.
Another Martin begged for peace so many years ago.
Inspired by Ghandi, he wanted to lead his people to a new day.
Vietnam, war and poverty stepped in the way.
Now, it is hate and terror holding us back and at bay.
But this little boy’s spirit, another Martin, cannot be silenced.
Holding a simple sign for a school project.
A sign that says it all: “No more hurting people. Peace.”
Tomorrow let’s embrace his message and hang signs across America.
A sign like his. Hold hands with Love and Peace Begin anew.
New days are dawing.
Nice dedication poem to Martin. I particularly like the line, “Peace and love walk hand in hand down an avenue”
