Welcome to the Memorial Day Edition of the Literacy Musing Mondays Party. This week, I share resources about the holiday including an informational video and links.

I also want to honor the memory of all those who lost their life in service to our country. Thanks also to my wonderful brother who proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years.

5 Simple Steps to Creating a Literature-Based Unit Study
By Shelly at There’s No Place Like Home
Shelley is one busy mom with 10 kids at home whom she homeschools. The steps she suggests are easy to put into practice. You will want to check this post out for your own ideas on unit planning. I would add that you might want to also consider thinking about the goals for your children’s learning with each book you choose. What do you want them to learn and how can you use the book you select for cross-curriculum studies.

10 GREAT LIVING BOOKS FOR
YOUR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS TO READ THIS SUMMER
By Leah at aswewalkalongtheroad.com

I now have a new (classic) book to add to my must read shelf: C.S. Lewis’s Out of the Silent Planet. I never knew that one of my favorite authors wrote a space trilogy. I learned something new reading her post. I really encourage you to head over and check out the rest of her recommendations.

Mary, my husband and I just came back from visiting our daughter and family in North Carolina, but we actually spend the week-end at a cabin in New Mexico with our youngest son and his family. (It’s been a busy 2 weeks!)
I enjoyed seeing Leah’s summer book suggestions, too. I think the C.S. Lewis trilogy will make a great gift for one of my grandchildren.
I hope you have a great week! Thanks for hosting!
A salute to all heroes of peace and freedom. 🙂
Enjoy your holiday.
Thinking on many sober things this Memorial Day while enjoying family at our hometown’s services and festivities to the purpose. God bless America!
Joy!

Also really enjoyed those top picks. This past year my youngest and I read Out of the Silent Planet out loud together. So fun to share it.
And . . . Memorial Day this year is family family family. All 4 boys together along with the daughter-in-love and the grand boy! Hooray!
Blessings on your holiday as well. Are you being affected by any of the storm activity? I pray for you whenever I hear updates.
