#LMMLinkup: Great American Eclipse 2017

August 21, 2017 By Mary Hill 12 Comments

Today at 2:39 p.m. my skies will darken as the Great American Eclipse reaches totality in my area. This is a once in a lifetime event!

I will be outside watching with my safety glasses.

Also, our town is sponsoring a fun eclipse party complete with a scavenger hunt.

Is your town experiencing the eclipse? Are you including this great event in your homeschool lesson plan or do you want to talk about the eclipse with your child?

I compiled a few resources for you here. Some of these resources include affiliate links so if you purchase I will receive a small percentage of the sale at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support. I hope you enjoy this list.

Eclipse Books

The Complete Kids’ Guide and Activity Book contains science and viewing guides, maps, and 30 pages of puzzles, games, and activities to help kids remember this rare and exciting event.

What Happens During An Eclipse? The purpose of this book is to give your child the introduction that he/she can understand.

Solar Eclipse 2017: Science Adventures for Kids (Science Adventure for Kids)   Solar Eclipse 2017 is a beautifully illustrated guidebook written specifically for kids.  By the way, if you have an Amazon Kindle Unlimited account, you can download this for free!

Eclipse Sites on the Internet

NASA has great website just for the 2017 Eclipse. Be sure to check out this fun website for lots of resources.

That scavenger hunt sounds fun! We were only 80% down here in FL, but it was still enough to be really exciting!

I hope you got to see the eclipse with your safety glasses on. Great resources! To be honest I was traveling and where I was the fog was thick. I will have to check out the resources you sent to get a good look.

Mary, it must have been amazing to be where you got the total eclipse! We only got 60%, but watched it on TV, too. One of our daughters and her family were pretty close so I can’t wait to hear about it.

Thanks for hosting. Hope you have a great week as summer winds down.

    Hi Mary,

We drove for about an hour north of us so we could see the eclipse.
It was really cool. We were even able to see some stars and all around the horizon was pinkish. We had our safety glasses on and traffic wasn’t too bad.

We live in Northern KY so will get a bit more than 90% totality – so cool. Have just finished having discussions and activities about the eclipse and will go meet the older kids to watch with a group of friends shortly. Thanks for the resources and the feature this week. <3

I loved Michele’s article and can see why so many clicked it. I discovered the problem I had with the “click to tweet” above. When I click on the tweet button, it doesn’t work. But when I click on the statement, it works. Weird. But so glad it worked for me that way! Thanks for the linkup, ladies!

We’re heading about an hour away to see it and hoping traffic and crowdedness isn’t horrendous.

I will be out mowing lawns when the eclipse happens — we’re pretty far from the hot spot, but I”m still excited about it. Did you catch Annie Dillard’s essay about an earlier solar eclipse? It’s being run for a limited time on The Atlantic’s website. Her writing is so great!

And thanks for featuring my post from last week! So encouraging to know that it was read and appreciated here!
