Life has gotten a little melancholy because I allowed myself to traipse down memory lane as part of the Seventh Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge! I finished my second entry earlier last week. It was part two about about my final days as an educator before retiring. You can see my first entry here.
Now it is time to find 10 Things of Thankful so that I pull myself out of the blues.
1. I am participating in this great challenge. Tomorrow’s post is entitled “Memories are Like Ribbons.” I hope you will come back and read it too.
2. The challenge is all about writing in the here and now. I wanted to give some of my autobiography with the first two posts. The next 29 will be short snapshots of memories, stories, and maybe even poetry.
3. My daughter, KR, competed in the Relay for Life Pageant last night. She was so beautiful. I am proud of her involvement in such a wonderful cause.
4. We had a great time with the family afterward. She posed with her older brother’s family, and we ate Mexican to celebrate.
5. Today, we were out looking for a car. We had to borrow my oldest’s daughter’s car because both of ours are in the shop. The thankful thing is we just replaced the van’s radiator and water pump and both are still under warranty. My husband’s truck should be ready tomorrow.
6. Right now, I really am taking all of these problems okay. I keep telling myself: this too shall pass. God will provide. Check-in with me tomorrow, though. LOL
7. KR is reading more than ever before lately. She recently started Erin Hunters’ Warrior series. She loves it and has read five of them already. She plays National Geographic Animal Jam and some of the kids were talking about the series, and she wanted to read it too. Now, if I can get her back interested in writing. I guess one thing at a time.
8. My husband is going to be an assistant coach for her softball team. The second practice is Tuesday night and games start in April.
9. I am battling some fatigue. I got back on Cymbalta, yeah. I hope it will work as good as last time without too many side effects. I don’t tolerate meds very well. Cymbalta though helps my pain. I tried Lyrica and could not tie my shoes. LOL
10. I talk openly about my disability as an educational tool for diversity and understanding. We all have issues in our lives, but we can come together and encourage one another. That is my goal with my blog. Please let me know in the comments if you need prayer. I pray for everyone. 🙂
11. Another week to celebrate life and the many blessings I receive every day.

You have a lovely daughter. My husband used to take Lyrica, though, he said he’d rather drink beer…We all need prayer in one way or another. I’ll say a prayer for you today.
Mary,
Thank you for your honesty here, about depression, and reminiscing through your retirement from that job earlier. It was neat to see photos of your daughter, to hear about your husband who will start coaching soon, and to count gifts with you. Blessings to you this week.
Re your comment on my post “She’s Smarter Than Me,” Ah, thank you. 🙂 It’s always thrilling to see one’s children making wise choices that will bring them joy. And such a good reminder for me too on those days I forget. 🙂

What they all said ^^^
And I hope your truck gets sorted out soon, too. Car troubles are no fun at all :/
Your daughter looks so pretty! Love the blue dress!
My son was a huge fan of the Warrior series! It’s always good when they get hooked on a series, because they read and read and read.
Hope your pain is managed soon.
Heres hoping that pain subsides soon, Mary… Your daughter looks lovely. It is a great cause .
Your daughter looks gorgeous in those photos, I can see why you felt proud. Sorry to see you have a lot of pain and I hope the medication works out.
Your daughter looks absolutely beautiful!
Isn’t it wonderful to see a child reading and really enjoying it? I don’t think my kids have ever read any of the Warrior series.
I hope the Cymbalta works for you. I tried some meds a couple years ago to help with the pain, but it made me so loopy I couldn’t function.
Gratitude is such a powerful thing. There’s always things to be grateful for–the trick is to train our minds to see them, to acknowledge them, and to stop entering into a balance-check with the bad. Great post!
Thanks for joining in the blitz to Life In Dogs — your comments will keep me smiling for a long, long time 🙂
