Today, on the blog, I am writing about a wonderful book, Rescued Hearts, written by one of my favorite novelist, Hope Toler Dougherty. Plus, be sure to enter the giveaway below. First, a brief summary:
Her personal safety isn’t the only thing in jeopardy-so is her heart. In Hope Toler Dougherty’s new novel, Rescued Hearts, children’s clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball’s soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar-entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Brett forsakes his three-month mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind . . . and then Mary Wade’s safety is threatened once more.
My Review:
This book is Hope’s best to date. I loved the action and fun.
I also enjoyed that Hope weaves in beautiful lessons in her book.
First, she speaks to the Christian calling we all have in life.
One of the subplots in the book involves Mary Wade’s ongoing issues with her parents over what being called into ministry really involves.
Her father and mother are not happy with Mary Wade’s decision to become a business woman, opening her own shop selling her beautiful designs. Mary Wade loves the work, but her parents are disappointed that she has not become pursued “ministry” as either a pastor’s wife or missionary. She feels rejected by her parents because she pursues her own dreams.
Throughout the story, Mary Wade leads classes to help others learn the craft arts. She even leads a crochet support group for cancer patients. She volunteers her time to teach children how to crochet. She also shares Christ with her co-workers and encourages them and prays for them regularly.
I spoke of calling in another post recently. We all have one. As Mary Wade illustrates in this novel, you do not have to be a minister or missionary to reach others for Christ.
In addition to this subplot in the story, I enjoyed the main action as Mary Wade and Brett have to flee killers bent on revenge.
The love story that develops is sweet. Both are Christians and are determined to pursue their relationship in a Godly way as Brett’s grandmother encourages.
I really enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it.

Before writing novels, she published non-fiction articles on topics ranging from gardening with children to writing apprehension.
