The Holy Attitude of the Beatitudes
My candle is dim …
My peacemaking turned to chaos.
My mercy forgotten.
I seem lost and blind, holding out my hands trying to find Him.
I want to live up to the beauty of the Beatitudes.
Let my light shine before men.
Let my love become a candle lighting the way.
I want to be called “blessed.”
Blessed are..
-
- ….the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3)
- ….those who mourn: for they will be comforted. (5:4)
- ….the meek: for they will inherit the earth. (5:5)
- ….those who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they will be filled. (5:6)
- ….the merciful: for they will be shown mercy. (5:7)
- ….the pure in heart: for they will see God. (5:8)
- ….the peacemakers: for they will be called children of God. (5:9)
- ….those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (5:10)
The price to attain the title “Blessed” is so high.
To become poor in spirit, to mourn, and be meek, hungry, or thirsty.
But then to be merciful, pure in heart, a peacemaker, persecuted for His sake.
I aim to draw closer to Him so that my candle will not be dim, but shine brightly.
Today, I write. Tomorrow, I share. Forever praying for those who read my words.
He calls to all. His arms outstretched with nails scars shining from His Holy Hands.
“Blessed are all who come to me.”
Will you answer His Loving Call?

I love these verses, promises of how God responds to our reaching out to him and our efforts to be the kind of children He would have us be. Because of His Son we ARE blessed, Mary… we are forgiven… we can’t be more blessed than that! 🙂

Though I’m not a follower of any religion, it doesn’t mean the words and sentiments mean nothing to me. I think there is a lot to be said for this message, whether a person is religious or not! Good luck with the rest of your A-Z!

You’ve reminded us so clearly about what the Christian life means. I fail so miserably. Thank you for your beautiful post!

Mary, this was such a special post for me. The Sermon on the Mount has always been inspiring to me. I often think about what it would feel like to be in the crowd listening to the words of Jesus. Your clip helped me remember those thoughts. I enjoyed your last video that has the right mix of thought and an uplifting tune.
