Holding On to The Important Things

September 22, 2014 By Mary Hill 10 Comments

By Mary Hill

Friday brings with it the Five Minute Friday writing challenge hosted by Kate Motaug at her site. She provides inspiration in the form of one word. Then you write for five minutes non-stop, typing furiously. You don’t stop or backtrack. The beauty is that you put your words up in their rawness and freshness. Then you share your post with other bloggers who have accepted the challenge by linking up at Kate’s site.  One major rule you must not forget. You share your love by reading the blog before and after yours. Leave encouragement and geniune responses to their posts.

So this week’s Five Minute Friday prompt: hold.
Hold

12 p.m. Friday

We hold on to so much in our lives. This morning, I cleaned and reorganized my dresser drawers. I came across clothing that I have not worn since before my pregnancy almost 12 years ago.

I had two cute cat shirts my husband bought for me in Gaitlinburg. I couldn’t part with them because of the memories. The shirts are too small now.

I remember when we bought them: the kiss that I’d given him. I neatly folded them and put them back into my drawer, my mind flooded with golden memories. I think holding on to some things is as important as breathing.

12:05 p.m.

Awww, love the ideas of blogging for only 5 minutes and the word ‘hold’ is so inspirational! I too, love to hold on to memories in the form of a souvenir. Thanks for sharing at the Saturday Soiree Blog Party!

I really don’t like clutter so yes I try to keep things that have meaning. There are some things that aren’t worth much monetarily, but mean so much to me!

How we end up holding things as they are associated with memories!

I love how things can give us so many memories. On my bookshelf I have ragdoll-angel one grandpa gave me, a Bible from a great-grandpa, & in my closet a shirt from another pawpaw. My desk (though currently a mess), is a vintage drink-cart from my great-grandparent’s living room. Everytime I look at these items, I remember. I say a prayer of thanks, and remember that God has truly blessed me.

    Beautiful post!
