Going to Link Up Today From a Hospital Bed!

May 9, 2013 By Mary Hill 10 Comments

By Mary Hill

Thursday blog hopIt is has been a long week for me.  I feel like I dropped off the blogosphere.  I have been sick from my current battle with anemia.  I have struggled with fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and headaches.  When you have anemia, arthritis,  and fibromylgia, it literally seems like all hell has broken loose on your body and mind.  I hope to get back into the swing of things soon. I go today for another infusion.  Maybe next week my blood levels will return closer to normal and I will feel able to do more.

I have one major fear.  I guess I will go ahead and share it because I know a lot of my blogger friends will pray for me.  I am scared I may have aplastic anemia like my grandmother’s illness that caused her death back in the 1960s. Here is a great article on this condition at Lifescripts: Aplastic Anemia by Monica Bearden, RD. I have not been diagnosed with this disease, but this is my fourth major bout of anemia during the past 25 years.  They were not able to discover the cause of my other bouts with this disease. My grandmother went through the same thing, constantly battling anemia before it turned aplastic.

My hemotologist is waiting to conduct bone marrow tests until after I have some other tests completed including a colonoscopy and endoscopy to rule out bleeding somewhere in my body.   I go to a digestive disease doctor today to schedule these tests after my infusion.

The worst thing right now is the fear of the unknown. I guess I shouldn’t borrow trouble as the old saying goes.  It is hard though when you know someone so close to you battled with an illness the same way you are.  I never met my grandmother. She died when my mother was 16.  I am a grandmother now too and a mother of a 10 year old.

My first bout with anemia occured in 1987 when I was in college. I had to go home for several weeks and even ended up hospitalized with menegitis. A spinal tap revealed I had this.  Doctors never got to the bottom of what caused this illness. They put me on iron and I recovered, slowly.  I battled with it again in the 1990s and then in 2007:  same results: no real understanding of the causes.

Well, while I am sitting in the hospital having my second infusion,  I will have my Kindle! I plan to participate in the Linking with My Ladies Bloghop today. I am going to read as many blogs as I can and hop around and link up with everyone.

Thanks for reading. I really am looking forward to reading blogs. I will comment but please if you see typos remember the Kindle has an awful autocorrect program.  It corrects things even when there are no mistakes!

Well, got to get ready to go. See you on the blogosphere in a few hours. 😉

I wish you much love and strength. Hubby was in the hospital a lot in 2010, and it’s never easy for anyone. Hang in there – sounds like you have a great attitude, and we know from our experience that that really does make a difference!
