Focus: My Next Spiritual Journey Linkup

January 8, 2015 By Mary Hill 25 Comments

A New Year can be bring new focus as we concentrate on what will come next. I embark on my 2015 Journey today. I know late, but will you join me? Read on!

My Before Picture

My New Year Motto: I can through Christ! Join Me on a New Adventure

First, I have been thinking about my word for 2015. Have you figured out yours yet? I am thinking about “Exercise.”

With everyday, exercise is sticking with me. Exercise can lead to focus and establishing goals.

[tweetthis]I focus on three dimensions of exercise this year: physical, spiritual, and mental.[/tweetthis]

Physical exercise is the easiest but hardest part to stick with.  So far, I have managed to exercise twice this year. I know terrible. The first week of the New Year, my husband was on vacation. I went to my rheumatolgist Monday. I told her about persistent pain in my left hip. Her diagnosis Trochanteric bursitis.  She gave me a shot and told me to rest for 48 hours: no exercise. She wanted me to ice it too.

So now, I have to deal with this. It is caused by my arthritis. I have already  had my knees replaced and am worried about my hip joints now.

Focused exercise, however, is where I will start. I found this great site on hip bursitis. If you suffer from this too, you may want to check out the slide show on joint friendly exercise.  Isometric exercise will be the key to my overcoming and moving forward with meeting my goal for 30 minutes daily of physical exercise.

Focused diet will be another major hurdle. I have cut out magazine articles on the Paleo diets and smart carb diets. I have several menus that I plan to follow, keeping my calorie intake at under 1500 per day. I will move slow and steady.

In the realm of mental exercise, I plan to write at least 500 words per day and read regularly. I am also going to play fun brain games that I am exploring on line. Do a Google search on mental fitness, and you will find it is as important as physical fitness. Check out this article by Healthline and you will see why.

Here are some great links for mental exercise game Internet sites:

  • Brain Training Games – lumosity.com‎
  • Sharp Brains Activities and Game Ideas
  • Mind Exercise Archive

Spiritual exercise and focus will also be a daily goal.  Prayer, meditation, and scripture reading are the main ways to accomplish this daily goal.  The ultimate goal for my daily spiritual exercise is to grow closer to Jesus. my Lord and Savior. He is the truth, the light, and the way. If you don’t know Him, please consider letting Him guide you too. It is a simple prayer inviting Him to be Lord of your life and asking Him to create in you a new person.

Will you join me on my “next” spiritual journey toward wholeness and health? I am also including a linky below. Link up your New Focus or New Year’s Resolutions posts for 2015 so that I can encourage you. What are your goals for the New Year? Please share.

I also have a simple prayer request for my readers: please pray for my success in this endeavor. According to scripture, when two or three agree upon a thing and ask for it to be according to Jesus’s will, it will be done. Will you pray for me? Let me know in the comment area. Thank you so much. You don’t know what this will mean to me.

I have a verse for this year as well, and I will close with it.

Phiippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

I love the idea of focusing on these three areas. I also struggle in them and want/try to make changes in them in 2015. Have a great year and success in all!

Prayers are certainly headed your way!
I think of Brene Brown when I read your piece. Excersize is so important. Almost like a filter for all the focus pollutants that are in our bodies.
Its sounds like not only are you finding the need to be focused, but utilizing the right tools to channel and create focus. I wish you the best!!

Great job looking through the lens of your word at every part of your being. It’s easy to focus too narrowly, I think. But you’ve addressed the whole person, and I think that’s important! My word for the year will carry over into exercise, too, so I’m with you on that!

I love that your word focuses on so much more than just the physical aspect of exercise, because all of them are equally important.

Wishing you and yours a healthy, blessed, and prosperous new year.

It’s so nice to meet you – thanks for giving us a place to link-up and share.

Three dimensional focus this year. I haven’t put mine into the same words as you did, but my goals are very similar! Two snow days are really helpful to get me to the gym during the day (instead of in the dark after work). Helping and encouraging each other on this journey is so needed! Praying that Jesus will touch your with his healing hand today!

You’ve done an outstanding job of planning goals for the new reach that are simple and clear, concrete and attainable, and most of all balanced! I love that you have a way to work on each part, with small steps in the right direction. Too many people make big leaps into the new year and run out of steam quickly. You can believe that I will be praying for you in your endeavor! My year hasn’t started out exactly the way I planned either, I hope to link a blog post up about that before the weekend runs out and share my goals for the new year then too. I think anyone and everyone could benefit from yours! If you want some friendly brain exercise, join me for Words with Friends (plays just like Scrabble), either thru Facebook or an app on your phone or tablet. It’s fun and great for keeping our brains working, a great way to pass a bit of time while waiting at a doctor’s office or walking too! Message me for my ID! I know how strong your faith and determination are, and I believe you’ll see some positive results from your efforts long before the end of the year arrives. “Just do it!” :-))

    Mary,
Your focus on the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yourself is so important. We can focus on God best when our body and mind are strong and healthy. I’m really enjoying everyone’s thoughts and ideas on FOCUS. It has enlarged my understanding of my OLW. I saw your comment today, and I’d love to add you to the schedule! Would you like the next Thurs. available – March 5th? Do you know what your OLW is yet? If not, that’s okay, just let me know when it emerges. 🙂 Your verse and goals make me think that STRENGTH would be a good one!

Exercise is lacking for me too. Limited to a short walk as I take my dogs out. Then Dr Al Sheers offered an e-book for sale about the PACE program of 12 minute exercise 3 time a week. The bottom line is exertion until your heart beats loud and you are almost out of breath. To begin with 2 minutes then rest until your breathing is normal – then another round of 2 minutes and rest and repeat once more. That is not 12 minutes exercise, but is where you begin. It can be fast swimming, fast running, of fast Cardio glider or what have you. I have begun and will expect weight loss and better lung and heart power.
