Unsinkable Faith took a vacation that day. I remember desperate tiredness, hugging my pillow and tears running down my face. I struggled with a desire to end it all. Life seemed so hopeless. I had the bottle of pills sitting beside me. Opened it and took a handful and popped them in my mouth. Realizing what I had done, I madly dashed for my trashcan and spewed them out.
I couldn’t breathe and scared, I sank to the floor. How had I arrived at this point? Why was my mind on fire with such awful thoughts of insecurity and depression. My pain in my body burned every joint with loathing as illness stepped up and screamed, “I have you in my grips, give up.”
I cried out for help and even called my mother to come down and stop me from trying to swallow a handful of pills again. She came and took my pill bottle from me.
I don’t really understand why I suffered the crisis that day. If you look at my life, on the surface everything seemed so perfect: beautiful daugher, warm home, and wonderful, sweet, and supportive husband.
No circumstances in my life were calm, but mind-melting pain from arthritis tormented me and my health issues made me want to give in and give up.
How do I conquer the issues which still plague me even now?
I remember a verse from Paul: Acts 26: 2
“I think myself happy, King Agrippa.”
Easier said than done for me most days. That is why the release of Tracie Miles book, Unsinkable Faith becomes a God appointment in my life.
I know in my heart, I need to correct my thinking. I can’t let Satan use my pain and defeat me. I determine never to return to that awful afternoon when my mother saw me at my worst state: hopeless and wanting to quit.
I am guilty. My sins overwhelm me when I give them the power to do so. When I let my negative thinking rule my heart, I let Satan’s lies fill my mind. I become incapable of fulfilling God’s will for my life.
This book brings powerful, Holy Spirit infused tools into your life. Each chapter aligns with Scripture and contains inspiring stories that will move you to tears of happiness so I encourage you to keep a box of tissues on hand.
The most powerful part of each chapter is the section entitled : Strategies for Your Thinking, Mind-transforming Reflections. This section is followed by beautiful memory verses to store in your heart for future battles.
I found one of my favorites on page 74:
“So after you (me) have suffered a little while, He (My God) restore, support, and strengthen you (me!) and He will place you (ME!) on a firm foundation. (1 Peter 5: 10)
Here is the King James version:
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
These life-changing words found on page 82 also fill my mind with joy. They are great reminder that I am more than my pain. I am more than my failed marriages. I am more than my perceived past failures because:
I read through this book quickly this weekend for the purpose of this review, but now I look forward to delving into the pages more thoroughly and take a journey with Jesus.
We all have past stories that overwhelm us, situations that have grounded us in despair. As women, we all struggle with thoughts of not being enough; not being the parent or wife we need to be; or not being the success in our careers that we should be.
This book is powerful. I cannot recommend it enough. It will guide you into new ways of thinking through the power of God’s Holy Word. You will need your Bible as you read this book because it is grounded in the Word.
Tracie’s words have unleashed a new desire in my heart to draw closer to God and to relearn How He Sees Me and not rely on my own perceptions and thoughts of myself and about my life.
