Finding my voice as a blogger has been a big issue for me this past week. While I attended college, old friends always described me as someone who wanted to look at the world through rose-colored glasses. I was the Pollyanna on my college newspaper. I saw challenges not obstacles. I believed and still believe in constructive debate not hatred and flaming each other for our beliefs.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved flaming up a good debate when I was younger. My uncle was a leader in our state’s Republican party. He still serves as a Republican county council member. His daughter, my cousin, worked as a Congressional aide for Republicans in Washington and is now a Republican member of our state’s legislative body; so when I was 19, I decided to wear my t-shirt that said “Free South Africa” and “Stop Funding Murder by the Nicaraguan Contras” to my family Christmas party. I had handwritten the verse: “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” on the shirt.
My uncle pulled me aside and said that I should remember that that was only one verse of the Bible, and I should consider the whole Bible in context. I responded that the verse was part of one of the most important sermon Jesus ever preached. I said he also preached that God shall judge the nations based on how well we took care of our poor, widows, orphans, and prisoners adding how do you think Jesus is going to judge the United States
I consider myself a Progressive Christian. My stance as a Progressive Christian is my voice. I love my country and I love Jesus who died for everyone. He died for righteousness and love’s sake. “Greater love hath no man that he lay down his life for his friends” is Jesus’ main message to the world. He died so all may have a place in His father’s kingdom in Heaven if they believe in Him and His sacrifice for all mankind. His will is that none should perish but that all should come to Him. (2 Peter 3:9) With Jesus’ message central in my blog, this will be my weekly schedule:
