I sit in my comfortable living room, never having to sacrifice anything in my life. Never having to face the threat of death because of my beliefs. My momentary pain battles seem insignificant to what Christ endured on the cross for all mankind. He was crucified unjustly for you and me.
His sacrifice was made so that if we accept Him we never have to face an eternity in darkness alone without God. That eternal darkness is what our spirits will face. I don’t believe in the hell the way traditional preacher’s preaching it. I do believe our spirits long for connection with God. It is something we live and breathe daily. If we continue to reject him, we face eternal darkness without Him.
If we aren’t connected to Him, there is a big hole in our lives that we can’t explain. Do you feel a hole in the pit our stomach, a hollowness? It could be a call from God, “Come to me all who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest and peace that passeth all understanding.”
Accepting Christ will bring you to an ultimate oneness with God. It is like nothing you will have never experienced before. All pain, all guilt, and all suffering will melt away in the light of His love. Will life be perfect? No, but our approach to troubles will be so different. We can rest because we know that the afflictions on this side of paradise are only momentary. If we believe in Him and the sacrifice that He made, we will find an eternity of hope.

Another great post, and I am in tune with much about what you are saying. I’m definitely not a believer of Hell in a traditional sense. It existing for us, though, in our own way, is very real.

I have lived in that darkness, it is a place of chaos and fear, there is no comfort, there is no peace. I live in the Light now! I agree with your understanding of nearness and distance from God. Our souls do long for that reunion, it never leaves us, the call to return home, until we heed it. What a wonderful place it is to dwell! I am eager for the day when my soul can depart this weary body, and I suppose that you probably are too, much better things to come, to be in His presence, to know love far greater than we can imagine or even begin to understand now!

I believe in the traditional hell but the hell without God that you speak of is just as scary. Christ died for us and nothing compares to that fact.
