Beauty of Grace: Book Review

February 26, 2015 By Mary Hill 4 Comments

We call can get into time crunches and face life challenges and even traumas and defeats. Sometimes we need a friend to come along side of us with the message that God cares and His love is so deep and wide, covering and protecting us from hurts and disappointments such as losing a friend or family member. That message is the central theme of the glorious, new book by Dawn Camp, “The Beauty of Grace.”

It is full of wonderful, amazing stories by the top Christian women writers in the country. The author list includes Lisa Jo Baker, Holley Gerth, Bonnie Gray, Amber Haines, and Lisa Leonard. The stories are beautiful and each are accompanied with stunning black and white pictures of beautiful flowers taken by Dawn Camp.

The Beauty of Grace by Dawn Camp, cover featuring a vase of white daysies.

A little book packed with powerful messages of God’s hope and love.

The book is divided into heart-felt sections focused on important themes; Purpose, The Big Picture, Surrender, Trust, Lessons Learned, Hope and Encouragement, and finally, Worship.  Each section includes beautiful stories and essays by the authors which focus on the themes of cultivating friendship, waiting on God, choosing joy, staying connected, learning to trust, and much more.

I don’t have a favorite part. There are too many nuggets of gold, diamonds, and beautiful stories that shine and illuminate.  This book is one that I will treasure and read again and again finding something new and fresh with each reading. I highly recommend it to all women, no matter what stages of life you find yourselves. In this book, you will find hope and encouragement at the exactly the right moment of need.

Here are some quotes that will highlight the beautiful messages readers will receive as they read the stories shared to glorify Jesus.

We can strive to be the self-sufficient savior, but in the end that strategy will never work. Certain mysteries dangle out of our reach by design. There is only one true Peace…. On my knees, I wipe up the remnants of chaos .. On our knees, we find Peace in the pieces.” Kellley J. Leigh

Too often, I take thought for rainment — not only do I worry about what I dress myself in, but I dress myself in that worry. Consider the lilies. I leave both Bibles open and rise from the table. I’ve had my Word. I move to the window and study the meadow… When did I get too busy to the way the white frocking laces in and out of leaf and grace.” Laura Boggess

So as I rinse my bright red frying pan, I find myself praying desperate dreams for the future. I pray for what I want, but rarely for what I have …  I want to sit and revel in what God has given me in the here and now… Daily, between soapsuds and dirty dishes, I want to pray for what I have now.” Lisa Jo Baker
