Everlasting Light Collection
Honoring His Sacred Everlasting Light
In Genesis, God challenged Abraham to count the stars. Abraham looked up at the night sky amazed. The stars were so numerous, but Abraham accepted the Lord’s blessings upon his life. He dared to count the stars in the night.
*******
The cool night and wind blew across my backyard patio. I sat with my legs crisscrossed on the cool pavement looking at the brilliant sky. I loved looking at the stars. They twinkled and glowed. I wanted to count them and literally hug them close. I felt amazed and quiet as I breathed in the night. I started to pray for a blessing from Him.
I wanted to be like Abraham. “God let me count the stars for you too.”
My heart started to sing, “I love you Lord. Your creation amazes me.” I stood up and twirled in the starlight. Then, I stopped. Something appeared in the heavens. It looked like a star coming toward earth at a great speed. It stopped and burst, splitting into two parts. The parts streaked across the night sky in seperate directions.
I knew this was my sign of light for my worship song. Joy filled my heart. I was only 12, but God Heard Me. Me, just a scrawny kid in South Florida. God sent His Sacred Everlasting Light of approval into my life in an amazing display of love.
I hugged the stars and gathered them in, trying to count them.

Later, I learned the “star” that seemed to explode into two pieces and streak across the sky was the U.S. Skylab whose orbit had decayed sending it crashing to the ground in Australia. It was amazing though that it had happened on the very night that I was singing in my backyard and counting the stars, worshipping and asking for a blessing from God.
What blessings are you seeking this Holy Season of Advent? I encourage you to spend time in your backyard one night this Holy Season. Twirl, dance, and sing as you count the brilliant stars in the night. Count your stars so God can shine His blessed Light into your life too.

Awesome memory. As adults we need to be more childlike then we would see more of God’s beauty shining through His creation.

Hi Mary, I enjoyed your story of the falling star just for you. More so, because I worked on the Skylab project at NASA JSC at Houston as a Simulation/Flight Controller during the Skylab missions. I was an aerospace engineer and for Skylab Missions I was either “Electrical Power” or “Environmental Control”. Before the missions I was a Simulation Controller. I did this also for the Apollo missions but left NASA for teaching after Skylab.

Oh yes, our little Town is growing now, but not much in the downtown, just the outskirts subdivisions. Ours had about 1000 homes and three golf courses. Parts of it are bordering on Lake Conroe. We border on a golf course. But the parts I pictured are there along with a few antique stores still open, a super market, three gas stations, and one traffic light.
We do have a post office, our subdivision is outside city limits and we are on RFD 12, Montgomery, Texas. If you’ve been to Houston, it is all flat but the hills have started 50 miles north up where we live.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful story and photos.
I wonder when was the last time I looked up at the stars… It was more than two months ago. Next time I see stars, I will remember your wonderful post.
I will pray you have time to the see the stars soon. Thanks so much for stopping by.
I love your story, Mary. One of my favorite things to do as a girl growing up was lay on a quilt in my backyard and watch the stars come out on a summer evening. How amazing God’s creation is and how wonderful He is to shine His light in so many ways. Connecting from Testimony Tuesday, and thanks for visiting my blog, too.
You are so welcome. 🙂
I loved this post, Mary! I can think of no place where we can be more aware and amazed at the glory of God than underneath the stars at night. The dark sky forms a broad canopy here in Texas above our little house in the country, and I count the stars as I count my blessings… too many to ever tally! I love the mirror that you chose for your daughter, and I’m excited about a chance to win this gift card! XOXO
Josie, thanks so much for your support. It means the world to me. I am pulling for you, but it will be up to the computer to select the lucky winner. Fingers crossed though. I am still working on a special post. It takes me longer than most people because some days I can’t do much. The post involves you though so there will be more to come. 😉
We have so little understanding of the power of God but thank heavens we have him to rely on.
Amen, well said. Thanks so much for your support. 😉

It’s so awesome isn’t it, that God’s promise to Abram was shown to you also, in the stars! Joining you today from Testimony Tuesday!
