31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Day 21: Can One Person Change the World?

October 21, 2019 By Mary Hill 10 Comments

Can one person change the world?  At 53, my life seems so inconsequential. Have I changed the world? Have I made a difference?

As I look back at my opening questions, I realize that only one person accomplished the feat of changing the world. He spread His arms on the cross more than 2000 years ago and died for you and me.

Maybe if I open my heart to His will and seek Him more, I can also become a person who changes the world?

I dreamt of changing the world as a teen. First, I wanted to be a famous singer, and then I aspired to write Pultizer Prize newspaper articles. I amended my dream again in my late twenties. I wanted to become an educator and media specialist. At the time, my focus turned to change my sphere in the world one person or student at a time. I worked in school libraries, hoping to impact the future of my students. Maybe one of them would change the world.

Today, I write for Christ to encourage women in their walks for Christ. Maybe something that I write will help a Christian woman to change the world.

I now realize that embedded in the hearts and souls of each of us are possibilities of hope, love, and faith. We all have the potential to change the world!

When You Want to Be Someone You Are Not

By Rebecca Hastings

It's easy to look at someone else and wish you were more like them, like you could have their calling. But God has something else in mind for you. #faith #calling #worship #church #serve #scripture

I so identify with Rebecca’s post. I had big dreams, too, but learning contentment and putting my faith in Jesus’s desires for my life is harder said than done. You need to read this thought-provoking post if you have not already done so.

My Favorite Post

Beware: Manure Happens

By Lauren Sparks

Lauren takes a horrific event in her life and turns it into a very thought-provoking lesson on spiritual blindness. I laughed and then quickly sobered up. Be sure to check out this post.

Want me to feature your post next! Just link up a post, and if readers read it the most, I will highlight you.  I also feature my favorite post each week. Also, please make sure you link back to our community, so others will know about our link up and join in. I will try to make it worth your while to link up by promoting your posts across my social media networks. I will also pin my most clicked and featured posts to our #LMMLinkup Pinterest Board each week!

Remember to grab your button if I have featured you:

  2. Link up the URLs to your posts, not to your blog.
  3. Please remember this is a family-friendly linkup. We reserve the right to delete any posts that are not family-friendly. We love all kinds of writing and genres, including family-friendly inspirational romances, fantasy, or science fiction. We do not welcome any posts that feature excessive violence, sexual content, or any cursing. This rule also applies to book review posts that feature books that are not family-friendly. I will delete these posts without notice to the blogger or explanation. While I believe in the right for all adults to read whatever they want, we feel our linkup is for family-friendly posts only. Thank you for understanding.
  4. We also want to be a loving community by supporting one another. Please encourage each other this week! Visit the two posts before yours and at least one other blogger’s post of your choice! So important to remember that Jesus is the one person who really did change the world, and that any impact we might make comes by following him!

I don’t know if any one of us can change the world, but we can be faithful to whatever part of it God gives us to influence. Thanks for sending encouragement!

Like you, I used to cherish big ideas about changing the world, and have come to embrace the tiny part of the world where God has me working–sometimes with an open Bible and sometimes with a hoe. It’s enough for us to “do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly,” but sometimes I forget.
