31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes: Answering Why With Faith

October 4, 2018 By Mary Hill 4 Comments

I don’t the why of today: my mom facing brain surgery that could take he away from me. My mother always answered why with faith.

I am not alone. My brothers and sisters; my daughter; their kids; we could all loose someone so dear.

When my father’s mental illness made him unmanageable and made life so terrible; she hugged us and uplifted us.

Her answer of why with faith provided the glue that saw us through so many dark nights and so many trials.

The  answer of “why” with faith gave me a bedrock  on which to establish my own faith walk.

If only, I could do the same for my daughter. I feel ashamed at times. I do not think I am providing the example my mother did.

I don’t remember a complaint. I don’t remember her crying about her own problems. I just remember her perseverance, her stubbornness.

She set such a good example for me.

Am I following it? Am I answering the “why’s” in my life with “stubborn faith.”

No matter what we face; no matter our trials; God will see us through.

It is 2:30; she has been back only thirty minutes in surgery.

Why does she have to face this in her life?

What really touches me is her plan to overcome and recover.

She bought an old fashioned CD boom box player and bought all the CD’s of her favorite Southern Gospel singers. She has a set of earphones and plans to play the CD’s as she lies in intensive care songs of beautiful praise feeling her ears.

Do I show that kind of faith to others; to my daughter?

I want to show my daughter the beauty of living a life of faith in Him; of answering my why's with faith so strong that during my most difficult times I just want to praise Him as I lie in a bed in intensive care.

These are some wise and worth-pondering-over words. I love that she got an old-school boombox to be able to listen to her CDs. What a forward-thinking, God-loving spirit!

I am so sorry about the hard, scary times you’ve had to go through and are going through. Those kind of times definitely can bring around the “why” chorus.” I am inspired by your desire to answer the why’s with faith. That is a great legacy your mom is leaving y’all.

Such a great perspective, answering our whys with faith. Sometimes we need to pull on that faith to really be able to do that, huh? Hugs to you!
