10 Resolution Resources for 2018 : Thoughtful Thursdays

January 11, 2018 By Mary Hill 6 Comments

It’s Not Too Late to Make New Year’s Resolutions

For 2018 with These Resources

Another year almost in the bag. The 2017 year flew by and as I look back, I realize I made some goals met them, but others not so much. Looking forward to 2018 on day 11 of the New Year, I feel behind. I have not made one resolution or selected my word. Are you in the same boat with me? Well, don’t worry, together we can make our New Year shine as we plan and resolve to make it the best year ever.

Why do we fail at goal setting each year? We tried the simple One Word focus. We tried mission statements,  but do we see real dividends?

For me goal setting is a spiritual exercise involving heart examinations, setting aside time for prayer, and recording my ideas for the New Year. How do you plan your New Year’s resolutions?

To help you and myself, I found these top 10 top resources as you look at organizing your New Year and focus on reaching your goals for 2018. As you look them over come back and share in the comments below which ones helped you the most and why.

  1. How to Align Your New Year’s Resolutions with the Bible. This post is one not miss to read.   A real point that hit home in the post centered on do my resolutions glorify me or God?
  2. The Best New Year’s Resolutions by Mindy Ferguson. This is second on my list because of the simplicity and power of the resolution Mindy recommends. I am putting number one at the top of my resolution list.
  3. A Christian Guide to New Year’s Resolutions | 7 Tips.  This is a YouTube video by Mike Winger  A powerful statement off the top: Look back before you look forward.   As you  listen to this broadcast make sure you have a pen and paper in hand. You will need to take notes. This is a great time for a personal retreat. Set aside about 30 minutes to work through this video.
  4. 4 Christian Principles for Making New Year’s Resolutions  by Meg Bucher.   Meg really affirmed my approach to setting New Year’s resolutions. This task is not to be taken lightly. We should set aside a time to retreat with God. I really loved her thought provoking questions. My favorite quote : “New Year’s Resolutions can be successfully written and wound into the tapestry of successful steps on our path to the purpose God knit into our souls if we keep them real.”
  5.  7 New Year’s Resolutions Every Christian Parent Should Have  by Natasha Crain.   As Mike Winger points out we should look at our positions in life in determining our goals. So naturally as a parent, this post proved very useful to me.  I will strive to make God our number one priority as a family this year.  Natasha shares some great starting points.
  6.  5 Ways to Fulfill Your New Year’s Resolutions by Heidi Wheeler.  Heidi offers practical tips to setting and keeping our resolutions while reminding us as Paul writes: “I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out” (Rom. 7:18).
  7. Discover Your One Word for 2018 {+Free Workbook}.  Ana provides a great free workbook in this featured post that provides a great starting point to writing down ideas for choosing your word for the New Year.
  8. 10 New Year’s Resolutions For Christians @ A Ranch Mom’s blog.  I love how she used scripture to formulate 10 great resolutions for 2018.  These 10 resolutions are ones I definitely want to commit to this year.
  9. 5 Tips for Setting Spiritual Growth Goals for 2018 by Kathy Howard. Kathy provides free resources as well to help you in preparation of your goals or spiritual resolutions. These include a  Discipleship Evaluation form to honestly evaluate your current spiritual condition and a free “Spiritual Goals Worksheet”  which will walk you through specific areas of discipleship such as time with God, ministry, service, and Christian education.
  10. 29 New Year’s Resolution Ideas – Make This Your Best Year Ever by Marelisa.  The tip to set aside one hour to day to fulfill your dreams resonated with me.

I work now toward finalizing my resolutions, taking time to pray so that I see real fruit in the New Year. This year, I wanted to take my time and really think about what I want to achieve in 2018. What about you? Have you set goals already or you still pondering your resolutions?
