Hope Toler Dougherty : Mars . . . with Venus Rising’ Review & Kindle Prize Pack Giveaway

Hope Toler Daugherty latest book, Mars .... With Venus Rising, is a sweet, romantic tale.

Hope Toler Daugherty latest book, Mars …. With Venus Rising is a sweet, romantic tale.

Travel to the small town of Mars, where you’ll find a meddling horse, paper bag floors, and a flying saucer on the town square—in the book by Hope Toler Dougherty, Mars . . . with Venus Rising. Penn Davenport dreams of passing the CPA exam and moving away from the two aunts who reared her after her parents died in a plane crash. When John Townsend—full of life and the joy of living—moves to town, he rattles Penn’s view of herself, her life, and her dreams . . . which isn’t such a bad thing until she falls for him and discovers he’s a pilot.

My Review:

Mars … With Venus Rising By

Hope Toler Dougherty Speaks to Conquering Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Although a fictional character, Penn Davenport’s story is relatable. Penn suffers from an extreme fear of flying because of the tragic death of her parents and brother. I too let the fear of heights floor me most of my life. I remember as a young teen not wanting to walk out on the rocky cliff at Table Rock. I sat at the edge as my brothers and sister braved heights to view spectacular scenery. I missed out because I left fear handicap me.

We all have something in our lives that we fear. Some of us can overcome that fear easily and not let it mar their lives. While others like me will let fear sideline them. What if I had read and learned 2 Timothy 1:7 early on or this verse:

1 John 4:18 – There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Penn tries to overcome her fear. She loves John and wants a relationship, but she can’t seem to conquer it. When another tragedy strikes, she must face her ultimate fear and the growing love she feel for John. Can she fall back on the words of Scriptures that her aunts tried to instill in her?  Can she find true love in a man whose career involves the very thing she fears the most: planes and flying? Prayer and scripture will be needed, and the author delivers these in the right portions to inspire and encourage. I enjoyed reading this book; although, it did move slow in places. I stuck with it though for the purpose of my review. I am glad I did because of the reaffirming scriptures and message it offers.

I also liked the sense of humor and the small town scenery Hope Toler Dougherty  shares as she narrates her tale. I hope you will read her book and learn more about Penn and John.   I also love the bonus of delicious recipes that Penn’s aunts dish up throughout the tale. Hope shares these at the end of the book which you can purchase via Amazon.

[…] I recently read  Mars . . . with Venus Rising  (affiliate link) by Hope Toler Dougherty. I received a free copy from Litfuse Publicity.  It is an Inspirational Romance book. I normally do not like the romance genre, but this book seemed interesting so I signed up for the launch team. It has a poignant premise. What if you lost everyone you love in a terrible plane crash. You fear flying and your life’s on hold because you can’t seem to get passed the trauma. A wonderful man comes into your life. He is sweet, supportive, and endearing, but he happens to work as a pilot. You can read my complete book review here. […]
