We face death and birth, two sisters who hold hands
And encircling human endeavors with their truth
Truth of continuances and endings
I penned the lines to my poem in 2013. I just learned doctors diagnosed a woman at my church with a rare form of eye cancer. A beautiful mother of four children, she battled the disease for more than almost two years before she died. We, women, of the church prayed for her several times during the battle, gathering around her, lifting her before the Lord. Following the tenets of scripture, we laid hands on her, begging for her miracle and cure.
Although she died, God did cure her. He just chose to do so by bringing the dear woman to heaven with Him. My poem further reads:
We abhor cancers and diseases as strangers
But are they processes of the humanity circle?
To teach us lessons of importance and insignificance
Life versus material; love versus inhumanity of greed
Identifying the crux of humanity
Balding and shedding of hair and thinning of body
But increasing of the soul and beauty of selflessness
That beauty of selflessness sang from the pages of Linda Kuhar’s memoir, Worthy of a Miracle. Unlike the woman in my church, Linda survived her battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma that forced doctors to place her in a coma after serious infection set in. The doctors told her family she only had a 5 percent change of survival. She lived in the coma for almost a month.
She woke up and her battle still raged. Doctors informed her that she may never fully recover and could face never walking again or breathing on her own. Linda, however, proved to be a fighter and determined she would not only walk again, but that a year later she would run a half marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training program to raise money for blood cancer research.
Linda’s battled in two realms : physical and spiritual. Her full recovery depended upon her acceptance of the fact that through Jesus she is worthy. She warred with feelings of unworthiness her whole life which she details in her book. She writes in a recent interview at Susan Mead’s blog, “My book Worthy of a Miracle is not only about physical healing but my spiritual healing and how I discovered my true worth in Jesus.”
[tweetthis twitter_handles=”@MaryHill16, @LindaKuhar”]Her book Worthy of a Miracle is about how she discovered her true worth in Jesus.[/tweetthis]
Running the marathon taught her so much, she writes. God prepared her in the midst of the coma for her miracle run and lead her to become a Certified Christian Life Coach. Despite all the success, she still felt like a failure and fraud, not a miracle. In confusion and anger, she gave up and walked away from speaking and her goals to help others in their Christian walk. She didn’t even know if she believed in God until the day after losing another job, she pulled over in her car and asked God to become real in her life.
She prayed, “God help me. Why isn’t this getting through to me? Why does everybody but me see miracles in my life? Show me how to believe. Please!” From this point, Linda details how she sought God in earnest and that is when the biggest miracles in her life really began.
“I sought the Lord, and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
Her journey is still ongoing. She devotes the final portion of her book writing about how we all can find miracles in our own lives as she takes us a devotional journey and shares her five Just Live Today Habits. I am absolutely enthralled by their simplicity. As I am this book. It is simply life changing. As I read it the words of God come to life as she share scriptures. I can hear them in my mind.
Psalm 5:3 Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.
Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Romans 8: 28 We know that God cause all things to work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
I end my review simply by stating that this book takes you on a journey and then gives you the road map. I know it sounds backwards, but the journey must be completed before we see the true miracles God has in store for us.

This sounds like a wonderful book! Thank you for the opportunity to win it. Romans 8:37, No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. If I’m more than a conqueror in Jesus, I can’t be worthless!

We wonder why some are healed and others not. We fall back on popular thoughts – not worthy – not enough faith – not God’s timing – perhaps he wants me not healed cause it is his will I stay this way?
All those answers are FALSE. Jesus wants us well and healed – but often times there is a need for someone to step up with the special Holy Spirit gifts of FAITH and HEALING and MIRACLES. Honestly – I yearn for those gifts to be manifested more in the church and also outside the church. Our daughter waits for a liver transplant and my husband has fought fatigue for the last 30 years causing him not to be able to work. Regardless we believe God is able and willing – but Lord here we are waiting.

This sounds like a great book! Thank you for sharing :). Cancer is so insidious and capricious–but there are always lessons we can learn from it.

Wow, what an amazing testimony! Some years back I was wrestling over not being fully healed from a spinal virus and wondering why some people “rated” healing and some didn’t. But it is not a matter of some rating higher in God’s eyes than others: it’s a matter of is purposes, what He wants to do in and through each of our lives.

Barbara, so true. I wonder why God doesn’t heal me of my arthritis? He blesses me through it. His love shines through the pain and when I am able to share stories despite my pain, I feel so blessed and loved by Him. Turn pain around and use it as way to reach others for Him.
