I wrote this post in 2014 about the gift of stillness. It is still so applicable in my busy life as I adjust to new challenges of a crowded household and continued battles with pain. We all have the problems that beat us up, but if we learn to accept God’s gift of stillness, grace, and deliverance, we can overcome. I hope you will enjoy this post.
Even a disabled mom doesn’t have time to be still. I have more than most because I can’t work, but being still is a gift. We all know the verse:
Psalm 46: 10 Be still and know that I am God.
Do we know how to be still and silent? How to slow down the mind? How to turn off the noises of the outside forces that seek to rob us of that stillness? A lot of times, I use a quiet room in the middle of the night to be still; to reflect; to dream, and to pray. Even then, the noises can intrude from the barking dog to my meowing cat.
God wants us, sisters, though to be still. It is a hushed command formed in His mind. It is His gift to us. He knows we need this connection, this stillness to learn more about Him. He wants us to love Him. He wants us to experience Him.
Nature: The Gift Being Still
By Mary Hill
The pond sat quietly,
The bird perched upon a tree.
The wind gently swaying
Nature’s melody
of stillness
Of waiting in a whisper
to know He is God.

Mary, I empathize with you on the night time stillness (though mine is normally caused by pain preventing sleep). But God! Thank you for this I needed this today.
My version says, “Let go & relax, & know that I am God…” how I love these words!
Blessings,
Jennifer

It is His gift to us, that’s for sure! I don’t always unwrap it, however…
Sue,
So true. I am in the same boat. Thank you for visiting my blog today.
