Trying to rejoin the Five Minute Friday Party. I got out of sync because I didn’t say no enough. Anyway, I will write about that in a minute. A bit of background as a reminder to my readers. Five Minute Friday is a weekly linkup at Kate Motaung’s blog. We are a commmunity of writers who gather around one little word picked by our host. We spend just five minutes writing without backtracking or worrying about grammar or mistakes. The goal is to write five minutes straight about the one word. Then we linkup at the Five Minute Friday site for the week where we read each other’s posts and encourage one another.
This week’s word: When
11:30
When is my time to write? When is it my time to do the things I love? In between housework, taking my daughter and picking her up from school, cooking, and dealing with pain.
I have been reading this book called, The Fringe Hours by Jessica Turner who also blogs at The Mom Creative. I am on her launch team and received a review copy. Reading the book makes me wish I was 20 years younger when I had to worry about fringe hours. Now, I am disabled and have a lot of fringe hours.
I know many women will say, “Don’t say that.” It is true though. I had to retire due to illness and disability. I sit at home alone during the day and write (when I am not in pain). I guess I have a different defnition for fringe hours. I have to find my pain free moments and make the best of them to serve Him.
I hope I don’t sound as if I am complaining. I am so blessed to have this time to read, to pray, to focus on Him. I can take care of my family and my home and still write and read, two activities that are my passion. Pain keeps me up late at night; so, this time becomes a fringe hour for me when the house is quiet and my family asleep. During the day, I am exhausted and sometimes get writing done.
I wish I could write a book or poetry galore. I wish I could turn back the clock. I wish I had used my fringe hours better when I was healthy and younger. This book has so many great ideas and some practical advice for women no matter where you are at in life. I think, however, the mom with new babies or busy professional who wants to find time to explore their passions will find this book an important tool. How do you fit it all in?
Back to my introduction. Because I have “free” time I say yes to too many things. I should be able to do that, I tell myself. I mean look at all the time I have. I should get up and get going and accomplish. I have a lot of guilt about not accomplishing more now. I like it though that in The Fringe Hours, you are encouraged to pursue your passions, learn to say no without feeling guilty, and creating a plan to make the best use of your time so that you can take care of yourself and be the best mother, wife, or whatever role you play, that you can be.

I am out of time, but I will share more about this book in a special book review soon. The book will go on sale on February 17, but it is available at Dayspring. DaySpring has the book competitively priced at just $10.99 and you can get free shipping when you buy two and use the code BLOOMBOOK. Bloom is the free online book club that Angie Smith and Jessica host on incourage. The last study will be on Fringe Hours. Be sure to check it out.
Note: I did not receive anything for promoting this book accept a copy of the book. I just think this is a great opportunity to join a Bloom book club and have fun learning about how to pursue your passion in your fringe hours.

Visiting from 3-D Lessons for Life…Fringe hours…the thought of four am. mornings makes me cringe and want to pull the covers up and sleep the extra hour or two. I think when we know we are nestled in close to Jesus, He can use any time to speak to our hearts, but the discipline of making time for Him is equally important. Our alarm already goes off at 5:30 and those nights when sleep is elusive, I can’t fathom getting up earlier and making it through the day WELL. Thankful for His never ending love and guidance. May His blessing rest upon you this day!
