What’s on My Bookshelf this Week

As a new book review blogger, I feel like I am doing a mic check sort of. You know tapping the mic, “testing one, two, three”  or “can you hear me?” “Are we on live?”  Learning so much about this community is like everything else I have experienced about blogging, it takes time discovering blog hops, reading challenges, etc. Then to sync this with my main blog Mary-andering Creatively: let’s just say this challenge is bigger than I thought it was going to be; so bear with me on this journey. So without much further ado, here is what my shelves look like and a look at my book review news for the upcoming week.

Books in the mail to review this week:
17350818 Sent to me by Bethany House. I got the book in the mail because I signed up for The Bethany House Book Reviewers’  program.  The program is a great fit for me. I love Christian fiction and want to write reviews, so there’s your sign.

305438Another Christian fiction title that I selected from my local library is Terri Blackstock’s Cape Refuge.

Here is the Goodread’s review: 

Mystery and suspense combine in this first book in an exciting new 4-book series by best-selling author Terri Blackstock. Thelma and Wayne Owens run a bed and breakfast in Cape Refuge, Georgia. They minister to the seamen on the nearby docks and prisoners just out of nearby jails, holding services in an old warehouse and taking many of the ‘down-and-outers’ into their home. They have two daughters: the dutiful Morgan who is married to Jonathan, a fisherman, and helps them out at the B & B, and Blair, the still-single town librarian, who would be beautiful if it weren’t for the serious scar on the side of her face. After a heated, public argument with his in-laws, Jonathan discovers Thelma and Wayne murdered in the warehouse where they held their church services. Considered the prime suspect, Jonathan is arrested. Grief-stricken, Morgan and Blair launch their own investigation to help Matthew Cade, the town’s young police chief, find the real killer. Shady characters and a raft of suspects keep the plot twisting and the suspense building as we learn not only who murdered Thelma and Wayne, but also the secrets about their family’s past and the true reason for Blair’s disfigurement.

 I will be completing reviews on her Restoration Series too in the near future. I read this series last year. Not to give away my review, let’s just say that the series was really awe inspiring.


I am very close to finishing Cheryl Strayed’s, Wild.  This story is good.  I will have a more complete review up later this week.
I also have a special book cover reveal event set for Wednesday and I can’t wait. It is for a good friend of mine who is publishing her first book. More details to come.

    • Narrowing in on finishing it, less than 100 pages. I didn’t read the reviews for this particular book. So far the book has been heart moving. That is all I am going to say about this book so check back for the review later this week.
