What’s in My Stack This Week and My Tuesday Teasers

I had hoped to finish this book by now.  I am only half way through. I will be honest it has been a slow read, but I am going to stick with it out of respect for this author. I have loved so many other books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.  I think Mrs. Naylor should have divided it up into four books because it covers so much ground: four years of Alice’s life.
The book has some high and low points so far.

Here is my teaser from page 215. It is Christmas time and Alice has gone to her Aunt’s home for the holidays:

“When I opened their gift for me and found a used copy of the book The Prophet, with Mom’s name on the cover, I was really delighted.
“It was all the rage back in the seventies.” Aunt Sally explained, “and Maria loaned it to me when she’d finished, but I never got around to reading it all. Then I was cleaning out our bookshelves a few months ago and found it. I though you might like to have it, since your mother was so fond of it.
“What a perfect gift!” I said, gently turning the pages. “Anything of Mom’s is a real treasure to me.”

If you have read the series, you will know that Alice’s mother died when she was little girl. She faced her teenage years with a single dad and a 19-year-old brother.
