What School Never Taught Me

Day 23, Thursday: Things you’ve learned that school won’t teach you

When I was a student, I did not know how hard most of my teachers worked. Teaching is such a thankless job sometimes.   I only learned all of this on the job as an educator and school librarian.  Working with teachers in the trenches, I learned how demanding their jobs are.  Teachers have their hands full with paperwork, grading, and preparing kids for standardized testing,  They have a certain amount of time each year to cram the state required standards into their young children’s minds.

They really don’t have time to teach everything we need to know.  In fact, I bet everyone of us have learned a lot of outside of the school setting.

My Poetic Thought for the Day:

Knowledge is round and square
It is continuous and limited
What we know is governed by what we have learned
How we learn is directed by how we live
So live life like a little child or a sponge
Question and absorb all you can everyday.

Knowledge is useless if we don’t know how to inspire others and help others.  Knowledge is useless without love.

Thursday blog hop

Another Thursday is here and it is time for another blog hop; so, I am Linking with my Ladies, sponsored by Katie over at Dysfunction Junction.

I am also joining another blog hop:  Thursday’s Favorite Things Blog Hop, hosted by Katherine’s Corner and Tricia’s Upcycled Stuff.

I have had a great week.  I hope you did too. Let’s inspire one another.  Life is too short not to reach out, link, and love.

Teachers definitely don’t get the recognition or the salary they deserve. My son’s teacher has become such an important resource for us – I feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful one for his first year in preschool (autism class). Great post.

Thanks so much. You don’t know what good timing this is. I really, really appreciate it. I will work on my post for next week if you don’t mind. I want to finish the May challenge. 🙂

Mary, this is good. My daughter is a middle grade teacher and works her heart out trying to help her kids. Teachers don’t get the credit they deserve, but in spite of all, kids still get lost in the cracks. We all need to work together!

Also wanted to say I nominated you for the Sunshine Award over at my blog. Come check it out!

I agree! Teachers don’t get even an once of the credit they deserve. I’m thinking their pay rate should rank up there somewhere close to doctors. 🙂

As my kids get older and (home)schooling nears, I reflect on what I learned at school. I’m either old or I didn’t learn anything because I can’t remember much 😉 Teachers and nurses… Salt of the Earth. My Mother is also one. Thanks for making me think.

Sarah, I know. I am a newbie. Working on tutorials and learning now. Trying to win a free design too. One can dream. Being a poor newbie I have to take things slowly and learn as I can. But I followed you too on blogloving. I have had a lot of followers. Blogloving is paying off. I have to get a button up though too.
