It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. Jen Vincent over at Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee Moye from Unleashing Readers decided to put a children’s and YA spin on it and they invite anyone with an interest to join in. You can participate by creating your post then visit one of their sites to add your site. Finally, visit at least three participant blogs and comment to spread the love.

I am re-reading The Capture by Kathryn Lasky. I love the story of the owls. My favorite character is Mrs. Plithiver, the blind snake who takes care of the owlets in the nest. I just love how she is so proud to live with the owls. I also love Gylfie, the tiny Elf owl, who presence is huge because of her bravery.
It is a fantastic world that Mrs. Lasky has made of owls fighting for survival and freedom against cruel owls working to capture and enslave all of owldom. Soren and Gylfie bravely plan to escape so that they can warn their families. They cling to the hope of the legends of the Guardians of Gahoole, knightly owls “who would rise each night into the blackness and perform noble deeds.”
You can learn more about the series by visiting Lasky’s website.
What are your reading this week? Have a great reading week. 😉
Oh, I loved those books! I used to own all of them, but donated them to a library that burned down (tragically, some vandals started the fire and destroyed the entire place). I hope they’re getting lots of enjoyment now in their new home; they’re such great stories!
I do love Mrs. Plithiver too 🙂
Kira recently posted…Dear kitty
Several of my third graders just got into Ga’Hoole this week. Love short books that lure kids in and then give them a whole series to read.
I am reading a travel guide, because in a few weeks I will be going on vacation 🙂
I saw the movie and I bet the books capture the story much better.
I don’t know this books, because I’m living in Germany… but the nice cat in you header reminds me about Dewey, a” library cat” from Iowa.
I’ve read a book about , translated in German.
I love your header photo! All the kitty needs is a pair of glasses to complete the ‘perturbed librarian’ look!!! lol
Sadly I am just rereading the Harry Potter books again. They are my fave, and all my books are still packed from my move in 2011. There’s just no room to unpack them at all. And going to the library has always been like going to the video store. I’m excited to go rent the item, but I never feel like making the time to return it.
I somehow missed buying this Lasky series, but the students don’t ask for them any more. Talking animals and I don’t do very well, but my students adore the Erin Hunter books. There’s also a horse series by Lasky, I think.
