Wednesday Hodgepodge

September 17, 2014 By Mary Hill 4 Comments

By Mary Hill

I have not joined this hop for awhile. Thought I would check in and see what is happening with my old friends. It is really simple to join.  Answer the questions created by blog hop coordinator Joyce Daley on your own blog then add your link at the end of the weekly post. Be sure to go say hi to all your friends and neighbors…or at least to the blogger who linked before you!

1. Douglas MacArthur is quoted as saying, ‘You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair.’ Would you agree? If not, why not?

This quote is very profound and deep. Youth and age are contrasted greatly. I agree to a degree because mentally these are true, but physical problems can age you quickly.

2. What remarkable feat, interesting piece of trivia, or historical event occurred on your birth day and month? Not necessarily your same birthyear, just the same date/same month.
I think it is cool that on my birthday, January 19, 1840, “, the Charles Wilkes expedition discovered Antarctica (US claim).” I also share the date when on January 19, 1903 the first regular transatlantic radio broadcast between US & England. I found these fascinating facts on this page.

3. Describe a time or circumstance where you wanted to ‘have your cake and eat it too.’

I have to agree with Joyce. Of course, I want to have and eat my cake on my birthday. 🙂

4. What’s something you do that makes you feel young? Something that makes you feel old?

Young? Blogging and writing keep my spirits up. I love meeting people virtually and reading other blogs. I follow a lot of blogs and read a lot.
Old? My arthritis and pain.

5. When did you last do something that was ‘a piece of cake’?
I can’t think of anything at this time.  I don’t do much other than read and blog these days because of my disability. But blogging is a really great hobby and is a piece of cake for me.

6. Beef, wine, and cheese all improve with age. What else would you add to that list?(not necessarily food or beverage)

My outlook on life seems to sometimes improve with age. Some days I struggle, but lately, I am learning to just accept where I am at and to relax and enjoy life.

7. If I were to have a giveaway when we hit Volume 200 in the Hodgepodge, what should I give away? By my calculations we’ll hit Volume 200 on November 26th, the day before Thanksgiving, which means whoever wins would have whatever it is by Christmas.

I would love an Amazon gift card. $50 or $100. I want to renew my Amazon Prime which is $99 per year so maybe just that. You might be able to get Amazon to donate it if you are an affiliate? Just a thought.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I love Amazon Prime because I get to use a lending library for free Kindle books and watch unlimited tv series and movies. I also get free two-day shipping which I use so much that I am literally paid back for the $99 annual membership.

If you want to learn more click on my affiliate ad in the side bar. You can get a free month through a special promotion to see if you will like the program. I get a small kickback if you sign up for the free month. You could catch up on a tv series or watch an entire season in a month.

I love Star Trek so right now I am watching all the seasons of Enterprise. I could never watch it when it was on tv. I also get to watch a lot of prime time tv shows commercial free like Under the Dome.

Glad that you are still blogging. Isn’t it interesting at the things that Joyce asks that really make you think. She keeps me on my toes. As for Star Trek the hubby and I have so far gotten caught up on all the movies and episodes. We have a tendency to watch them even if we have seen them before.

A few people have suggested an Amazon card, and that works for men and women of all ages which is what we’ve got in the HP. It’s nice to see you here today. I too enjoy meeting people through my blog, and the connections made here. Have a great Wednesday!
