TToT: Keeping it Real

September 1, 2014 By Mary Hill 6 Comments

By Mary Hill

It seems with my life every trial or setback comes with blessings in disguise. I am going to keep it real today and will write my heart which includes pain and happiness all in the same breath.

I sit here watching my granddaughter explore an old science book that my daughter’s first grade teacher gifted her with because on the last day of school my husband took her and she was the only student there.

“It is a dog like Lily. Ah, that looks like your cat.”  She oohs and ahs over the pages. She comes to a page with bears and it reminds her of a movie about bears. “I loved that bear movie. One page has carrots on it to eat. I want another book. I’ll go and get another book.”

My hands are burning as I type, but I forge through. “Look one is about snakes. I don’t like snakes, but let’s read this one. Ooh look at this one and this one. Look at this yellow one and this one. Look. Wow, that snake eats rats. This one looks crazy with its nose.”

After two hours of sleep because my pain topped 12 on a scale of 1 to 10, my husband calls me. “Hurry up, Mary. Come quick.”

“What is it. Don’t you know how tired …. Let me grab my camera.”

The photos did not come out to my expectations. I couldn’t get too close because he flew off so quick. Such a blessing to see a hawk up this close.

Writing is hard for me some days. A friend offered to type my thoughts if I recorded them and sent them in a tape format. I would take him up on the offer, but I am having problems concentrating.

My thoughts are hard to capture and focus in on some days. I am about to beg my doctor for Embrel in addition to my Methotraxate, but I don’t want to get pneumonia again. These drugs lower you immune system, but they really helped me with the inflammation. The flip side is you can get really sick; so taking them is a risk, especially if you are prone to infections. I don’t know if my doctor will take the risk, but I am willing to try it again.

Last time I got so sick I went to the emergency room and had the flu and pneumonia at the same time. I had a fever of almost 103 and was coughing so hard I couldn’t keep food down.

My book pile keeps piling up. My granddaughter wants me to read to her some more. I am healthy right now. No flu or pneumonia. Maybe I should risk it.  My hands are burning, but I love to write. I keep typing.

So back to the blessings. My daughter loves school and is doing well. She is now 5’8″, only one inch shorter than me and she is 11.  It is amazing watching her grow into a young lady. She is growing up too quick. If I was able to work, I would miss so much watching her grow. I spend so much time with her and am so blessed.

I get wonderful times with all family members. Another book joins the pile. I have to go read. I will link up with my hops later. I just went to lunch with my grandson and daughter yesterday. We had fun. 🙂

(Later Sunday evening)

I had a great day at church. I finally slept.  I will have a great Wordless Wednesday post. We just finished redecorating my daughter’s room. Gone are pink and princesses. She wants to be teenager. She reminds me daily now that she is almost 12 and has only one year left until she is a teenager.

Katie Rose just came running in. Her friend has challenged her to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. She is so excited to participate. We will do this in the morning. I now have another blog post for this week to complete.

What a week of fun and love. I know I am blessed. 🙂

Aw Mary I’m so sorry you’ve been in such pain. You’ve done a brilliant job at finding the silver linings and keeping thankful and grateful BUT I hope you have a very much better week this week.

odd how certain things trigger memories about similar, but different things in people. I thought about the ‘All About’ series of books that I grew up with in the 1960’s. (They were the first of the books, aim at children of my age that had glossy photo covers on them.)
Sorry hear about the difficulty with the hands… pretty damn good photo nevertheless!
(I’m sure someone has suggested ‘Dragon Naturally Speaking’ which, though it takes some training (of the application to your pronunciation), it is considered the best of the speech to print software.

I’m sorry that you’ve been in so much pain. I hope that you get some relief soon. Children, grandchildren, and books are wonderful thankfuls, though.
