The Mentor Question

March 15, 2013 By Mary Hill 6 Comments

Today’s blog is a hard one for me. I have so many people that I would want to be my mentor, depending  on which life goal I focus on.  I have four major goals in my life right now.  First, I want to draw closer to God spiritually. Secondly, I want to become a published young adult author.  Third, I want to become a published poet. Finally, fourth I want to build a popular blogging presence on the Internet.  Who would I want to serve as my mentor for each goal.

  • Beth Moore tops my list for spiritual mentor.

  • Jane Yolen is the person I would want to mentor me in the area of writing for young adults and children.

  • Joyce Sidman is the poet I most admire and would want to mentor me.

The jury is still out on whom I would choose as a blogging mentor. Anyone have any suggestions on who they would choose as a blogging mentor?

Hi Mary! These are great goals. I sometimes enjoy reading a few of my daughters’ novels. I’ve got two girls who love to read and a son who also reads a lot. My youngest can’t read yet, but she just turned 5, so it won’t be long now. I wish you all the best in all the various writings! God bless!

P.S. I’m now following you on GFC. Thanks for visiting Amanda’s Books and More!

Good luck to you on reaching your goals. Writing them down and owning them is the first step!

Celeste thanks so much. I will definitely take you up on your offer. I need to finalize chapter two. I have an outline and first chapter written. I completely wrote a children’s novel and another YA novel, but they are sitting on the back burner because I started redrafting them and thought of my latest idea. I am just getting started as a blogger having posted on my other blog in late January for the first time in my life. I have a lot to learn but am learning thanks to all the bloggers I have already come into contact with. 🙂

That’s a great, goal list, Mary! I especially like the first one. I don’t know why, but I didn’t realize you write YA. If you ever need a beta reader, I’d love to see your work. It seems I’ll never grow out of my YA reading/writing phase. I’m always interested in reading other YA writer’s work. :)Oh, and I’m wagering everybody, me included, will tell you Alex would be a great blogging mentor. 🙂 He’s the bomb, and it doesn’t hurt to know he’s got mad love for The Lord. 🙂
