Yesterday, I set some goals. Today, I am fulfilling them. I joined two BlogHops. One lasts all month at BlogHer. The second is hosted by Kyra Lennon and Clare Dugmore for just one day.
BlogHer theme for NaBloPoMo in March is “taking risks.” Kyra and Clare have encouraged bloggers to post a list of joy. So I am going to write about both.
First here is my list of five things that bring me joy:
- The sounds my new grandchildren make when they see me coming. I am their “Meme” and I know I am loved when they run to me with an excited shriek of glee and a big hug. Their ages are two months to three. My youngest grins when I pick him up and wrinkles his forehead.
- Talking with my husband on the cell phone when he is at work. Hearing his voice always feels me with joy.
- Spending time with my youngest daughter. She is 10. She loves to laugh, read, and sing. Just being in the same room with her brings me joy.
- Visiting my mother and talking with her about her day and seeing her latest sewing projects.
- Taking care of my pets and seeing them happy. My kitten purrs and rubs up on me and my dogs wag their tales and hop for joy when they see me coming with food and love.
The risks I plan to take this month include:
- Cross-posting my thoughts on “taking risks” here and at BlogHer. Here is a link to my BlogHer blog: http://www.blogher.com/do-you-think-its-better-play-it-safe-or-take-risks
- Writing creatively about the joys of “taking risks” and how taking risks helps up grow as wives, mothers, sisters, and best friends.
- Continuing to set new goals that stretch me and help me grow personally.
- Challenging others to take risks and to do something new that will help their communities and families.
- Taking the risk to submit poems, short stories, and a query for a novel for publication to various publishers and literary magazines.
What are the five things that bring you joy? What risks do you want to take this month?
Clare,
Thanks for stopping by. I have a new post up today about the rewards for taking risks. Hope you will stop by.

Thanks for taking part in the bloghop; great list. It’s so cute your grandchildren call you “Meme”. <3
This is a lovely list. 🙂 I enjoy talking to my husband on the phone when he’s at work too! It’s a bit silly, it’s not like he’s been gone long, but it’s just nice. 🙂
Thank you. I know what you mean. I don’t think it is silly though. For me, it is just reconnecting and hearing his voice helps me through a busy day. Hope you can stop by and read my latest entry on the “taking risk” theme. It was published late last night.

Hi Mary! Thanks so much for coming by my blog, I’m so glad to discover yours as a result. I love your joy list! I could just imagine your kitten and dogs, how cute. <3
So nice to meet you!
What a lovely list! Thanks for joining in with the bloghop! 😀
I have two children-one is a year old (almost 2) and the other is turning 4 next month. I love being around them because they’re so happy most of the time. They find joy in even the simplest of things, which is an ability too many people forget as they get older.
Great lists! What could be better than family and kittens? 🙂
