Thankful for the Memories

Ten Things of Thankful

By Mary Hill

1.  It has been a tough week, but I am pushing forward and counting my blessings. One of my biggest blessings are the special memories I have of my dog, Cocoa.

She went to heaven yesterday because the vet said it was for the best. She was too sick and in too much pain. Born in 2002 sometime in February, she gave us more than 11 years of joy. We bought her for $5.  “The best $5 dog ever,” my husband said at the time. She was the most loving dog and so good with children.

We entered her into a dog show in 2003, and she garnered a second place finish for longest ears. She was 14 months old then.:)

2. Yesterday, I found out that I need to have minor surgery, and my husband has a suspicious spot on his face that need to be looked at by a doctor.  He made an appointment for October. I have an appointment for next week. I am counting on blessings and God’s provisions. I know He will see us through.

3.  I count if all joy though that I am afflicted for Christ’s sake.  I know that one day we will be called away to be with Jesus.

4.  My daughter got a good progress report yesterday.  She is so smart.

5.   You remember the writing gig I got a few months ago?  I got a letter two weeks ago to still send in my articles . I thought things had fallen through.  I sent my first article in this week and have received my first small payment. It is a start.  I will post a link when the article is published.

6.  We are getting rain today, so I was not able to go out and get my photos for a special fall project. I am postponing until next weekend. I am thankful for the weather and that our area is being spared.  I am praying for those in Colorado and Mexico hit by the flooding and hurricane.

7.  Getting my daughter out of bed this morning has been a struggle, but at least, I have quiet time to finish my 10 Things of Thankful. I really want to so something fun with her today.

8.  My husband works so hard to provide for us. He is at work write now trying to earn extra money to help with medical bills and buy Christmas for our family. I am blessed to have a husband like him.  Please pray for him this week. He has suspicious spot on his face, but will not see the doctor until mid-October. I hope it is nothing serious.

Mary…what a tough week. I am so so sorry about your sweet Cocoa. My heart goes out to you and I pray you can find comfort. I will be praying for you as you have your foot surgery and your husband awaits his appointment.

Congrats on your article! That is exciting! And on your daughter’s good school report!

It is not always easy to stay grateful in the ups and downs of life, but I can tell that your faith is strong. I know for me, that finding comfort and strength in trusting in God’s ultimate plan is how I get through. Praying this week brings you peace and comfort.

I hope for you that your surgery goes well and your husband gets good news on his spot. I’m so sorry for your dog’s passing. We’re going to get cats once we move into our house, and somehow I’m already dreading the day when one dies.. Congrats to your daughter on the progress report, good grades are always important.

I hope you have a great new week with many things to be thankful for!

    You have my deepest sympathy at the loss of your fur baby, Mary. Having lost our own girl last year, and having to face the same choice that you’ve just had, can be really hard, and I know how much of a gap our dear friends can leave in our lives {{{Mary}}}

Both you and your hubby will be in my prayers until things are resolved – I pray that the mark is nothing and that your surgery goes smoothly πŸ™‚

I am so sorry to hear about Cocoa. We lost our 17 yr old kitty, Crickett, this last summer. Such a hard decision to go through with–her kidneys were failing and we had to have her put to rest at the vet. I am praying for your family — pet losses are very, very hard.

Boy Howdy, you weren’t kidding…it has been a rough week for you guys! Praying for healing and for a good diagnosis on hubby. Good for you for powering through the 10 Thankful Things in spite of this difficult week.

    Hugs & Prayers…

Sorry to hear about your dog. They are amazing creatures, what they give us is impossible to measure, but I think we all feel it especially when their time with us ends.
Best of luck with the other medical things…and the writing thing! One door often opens as another might close.

So sorry to hear about your dog – she looks really sweet, and 11 years of doggy love for $5 is a massive blessing indeed.

Glad your daughter’s doing well – that’s an amazing thing to be able to be thankful for. Good for her.

I hope that your surgery and your husband’s appointment both go well, and you are both found to have things which are either nothing to worry about, or easily fixable.

I’m glad that your writing gig’s still going ahead – I look forward to reading what you’ve written for them πŸ™‚

I’m so sorry about your baby. Our Little Bit will be 11 in October. We baby her so as she’s becoming more senior and can’t do the things she used to do. Big healing hugs.

You and hubby are in my prayers. I just went through a bit of a scare last week. I’ll share that on Two Shoes Tuesday.

Have a blessed day and weekend. πŸ™‚
