Thankful for Small Victories

April 26, 2015 By Mary Hill 5 Comments

Victories I Celebrated This Week

Continuing my weight loss adventure!

Continuing my weight loss adventure! Me 37 pounds ago. Working on my update pictures.

V is for victory for me this week.

My life has turned around. I am continuing on an incredible spiritual journey. I feel reconnected to Him and have read some great devotionals and upped my time spent in the Bible.

I also achieved a great deal as I finalized the Biggest Loser Challenge at my church. We had our final weigh in last night and I placed third. I won the title for the Biggest Woman Loser in my church. Since the competition began at the end of February, I lost about 36.2 pounds or 14 percent of my overall body weight. I am proud of my accomplishment because I concentrated on losing weight the safe and natural way.

The winner wore a plastic bag to the weigh in under three layers of clothes and sat in a heated up car to sweat off his pounds. He also did not eat for a week.

I, however,  changed my food habits for the better. I cut out all bad carbohydrates such as white bread, rice, white potatoes and sugar.  I switched to natural and healthier alternatives such as net carb wraps and sweet potatoes. I limit my brown rice and or wheat toast to just one serving a week because these are still high in carbs.  I switched to drinking mostly water and drinks sweetened with natural zero calorie sweetners like Stevia or Monks Fruit.  I love cauliflower mash more than white mashed potatoes, too. (Real victory here!)

Through it all, my husband supported and urged me on. Now, comes the hard part. I have about 58 more pounds to go. I can do it though. I just have to stick with the changes.

I was supposed to celebrate with a victory dinner last night. I ordered a hamburger and ate cheese fries which I halved with my husband.  I forgot to tell them to leave the barbecue sauce off of the house speciality burger. My husband ate his half, and we fed the other half to the dogs. I tried again today to get a good meal, but my meal was terrible. I wonder if my taste buds are changing? I didn’t like the cheese fries as much as I like cauliflower mash and my grilled aspargus in lemon sauce. Oh well, I guess it is God keeping my on track. What do you think?

I start on the second leg of the journey again tomorrow. Back to healthy eating until I loose another 18 pounds. Then I can have a reward day. I hope I like my reward dinners better next time.  If my tastes completely change, and I love the healthier stuff better than the junk food, God will have worked a miracle in my life.

My daughter scored some personal victories too this week, playing well in softball and continuing to earn straight As in school.

This is my V installment for the April 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge.

Congratulations on your loss! I imagine you will be as successful with the remaining pounds as you have been so far.

Our taste does indeed change. I have stopped eating meat a few years back; the first year after giving up meat, I wanted to eat turkey for Thanksgiving (hubby swears turkey are evil and can be eaten without remorse 🙂 ). Well, let me tell you, I didn’t like it anymore. I think the same is happening to you, your taste changes to the things you do eat. Anyways, congrats on your weight loss, this is quite an accomplishment!

Mary, congratulations on your weight loss! I am trying to shed some recently accumulated pounds, but I am not seeing nearly enough progress for my taste. Going to mix it up a bit this week and see if I can’t get that scale to budge. And thanks to your post here, I think I”ll be picking up some cauliflower and asparagus today when I hit the market. That sounds good! I definitely think tastes change quickly and the more good, healthy food you eat, the more your body wants that over anything else.

congrats on the win! (and the process, which, one might say is more important than the outcome… i.e. 1st, 2nd third or whatever). Change is a funny thing. It’s not that we can’t want, imagine or even achieve change, it’s the ‘stay changed’ that is the difficult part. And what I read in your post, you have that part… not simply the weight, but, (as we say around here), how you relate yourself to eating and food and such. Connecting all the good things in your life (as you do) to this change is the key, to know that your accomplishment is not simply about a number on a scale, but rather how you feel about it. very cool.
