Remaining Open: What does This Mean to You?

July 30, 2013 By Mary Hill 11 Comments

By Mary Hill

Your choice of word prompts for Tuesday, July 30th are:
open or early

We open so many things in our live time. We open doors; we open bottles; we open windows; we open our hearts; we open our minds; and every morning we open our eyes.

What does it mean to open. It  means to move or push something to a position to allow access or free entry. When something is not opened, it is closed up and you can’t enter or influence. It is rigid and locked up, and you cannot influence without repositioning it.

Exploring this definition, I just had a new insight.  If we do not open ourselves to new ideas or concepts, we become rigid.  People are unable to approach us. God is unable to change us without repositioning us.  We can’t be entered. We can’t be influenced because we are closed up and stubborn. Truth can be shut out.

What are you being unwilling to be open to in your life today?  Openness is a state of mind. Being open to truth and open to the Lord is a perpetual state that we should strive to live in daily. What would you miss if you don’t live this way? What would be the cost?

I love the concept of being open to things. We need to be open to change. I enjoyed your post.

Wow, Mary, you took this prompt and turned it into a beautiful meditation… I love this! At the end of a long Monday it is such a good reminder not to shut down and shut God out, even when I am weary. I love the song you shared with it too! Thank you for such an uplifting contribution to TST, I so enjoy how each person takes a word and makes it their own!

This is a really good post, Mary. I’m happy to have found your blog via you linking up to my It’s Okay blog series! Thank you so much 🙂 I agree that we need to live “open”. I sometimes don’t do that where my husband is concerned and I need to be better in that way.

It was so nice to read this…as it was where I initially went with this prompt but then changed it. Im still not sure why? But remaining open is key…I cant imagine how much I would miss if I didn’t strive for this as a goal because as it is I DO miss so much just from a shear inability to see things or interpret stuff.

Being open equals to a better life. I think sometimes people mix up being open with being naive. It’s not naive to let in new opportunities.

Being open to getting older is my ongoing challenge, and learning how to do this gracefully (not sure this is possible). Just want to live up to my best potential and with God’s blessing.
