Less than 24 hours and my Katie Rose starts a new school year as a fifth grader. The summer was full with having to help one family member with health issues. She is recovered though and now about to embark on her own new school year at our local college. I have a second daughter who starts college as a freshmen this week too.
It has been a summer of fun and personal growth. I have struggled some though with my identity as a mother and wife. We all do don’t we? Back to School time gives me a chance to reflect on lessons learned and lessons still to learn.
I can take a simple lesson from momma rabbit this week.
Even the best mothers need help to save their children from destruction and danger. We build our homes secure; we try to do our best to set an example of love. We read our Bibles, study God’s word, but danger still can come. God will provide a resource of rescue for us and our children when we pray and have faith in Him. Our homes may be flooding and our outside worlds falling apart, but God is faithful to provide warmth, love, safety, and our basic needs.New School Year Goals and Prayer
Now as I send my youngest off to school tomorrow, I do so with a mother’s prayer. How do I make her first day of school great and memorable? Here are my goals. Maybe they might help you too.
- Read the Bible with her tonight and pray for a good school year.
- Make sure she has a great outfit selected that she will be proud to wear.
- Make sure she is off to bed early so that she gets a good nights sleep.
- Plan a back to school breakfast that she will enjoy.
- Make sure her drive to school is filled with love and joy. (Don’t let last minute stress derail this.)
- Go early to meet her teachers. (We have school supply drop off tonight). I will be using some of the printables that I featured last week. I especially like the one that you give to teachers by Juggling Act Mama.
I am sending my child to public school. I home schooled her two years ago, but she missed her friends. I wish all my home schooling mom blogging friends a great year too. 🙂
My scripture for reflection today:
I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

Cute bunnies! I like you suggestions for making your daughter’s first day of back to school great! I’m adding you to my blogroll, like your blog!
I’m featuring this post on Tuesdays with a Twist today! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
How I remember these years, and the combined anxiety and excitement on that first day. It sounds like you’ve done a wonderful job of planning to help your daughter have a great start, and I’m betting the older one starting college remembers those earlier first day of school times with warmth and love!
Our roles as women, mothers, wives are complicated and sometimes convoluted. When it feels confusing I remember that my first and most wonderful role to fulfill is simply as a child of God! You can’t go wrong with that as your center! XOXO
What a lovely post! You are a very wise mother. Thank you for linking at Tuesdays with a Twist! I hope you can join us again tomorrow! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
I love bunnies. I had them when I was a kid, and have rescued many. Yes, we can all learn from animals.
What a sweet example of motherhood. You seem to be doing a great job, too! Two kids in college….wow, big transition for all. I remember that time fondly and the results have been pretty nice too. My daughter is a middle grade teacher and my son an accountant.
Love the rabbit 🙂 and wow 5th grade is a big deal 🙂
You have to care for and protect your babies. It’s just what we do. I love this post.
Have a blessed day. ☺
