My Present : On the Mountaintop

 

HE SEES WHAT WE DON’T

There are times in this life when fear is so heavy

It is hard living in the present on dark days when the world is crashing in and all looks bleak and lost. We struggle with faith during these times. I know I do.

This week  my “present” is on a mountain top, however, because of revival at our church. A young woman from West Memphis, Arkansas came with a friend of my husbands. This young woman knows about bleakness and dark days. Abused, neglected, and battered, she came with her friend that helped raise her. She seemed scrawny and hid away in baggy clothes and wore a stocking cap.

As she crossed our church’s threshold Wednesday evening, her present about to change forever, she seemed shy and quiet.

I knew a little about her background from my husband. I didn’t know her name though, yet.

The evangelist preached a funny message on love and grace. She alternated between crying and laughing and then sobbing again.

Then came the altar call. I heard in my spirit, “Ask her if she wants to go the altar and pray.”  I obeyed.

She did, and I took her hand and lead her forward. Praying over her during the invitation, she raised her hand when the pastor asked if she had any doubt about where she would go when she died.  Then the pastor lead those that raised their hands through the sinners’ prayer.  I could hear her praying the words as she sobbed. The Holy Spirit settled down beside me and allowed me the privilege of seeing a new born Christian birthed into the Kingdom.

Last night, we heard she spent her day reading the Bible and ordering free materials from a religious television show. She begged our friend to take her back to our church for last night’s revival service. My daughter and I heard the outcome of her day with joy and immediately wanted to go to church to join her.

We had not planned on going last night. My husband wakes up early in the morning for work and my daughter has school this morning, but my husband heard my daughter begging him to take her to church and that is all it took.

At church last night, the special singers performed the song above.  The Spirit blew by again and once again the young woman started crying. I could see longing in her eyes to go back to the altar.

I leaned over and told her our altars are always open for prayer, and she asked me to go up with her.

She had a specific prayer request. She wanted prayer for her mother who is in an abusive relationship. She wanted both safety and the same salvation she received for her mother.

I finally learned the young woman’s name at the end of the service: Ashlyn and her mom’s name is Cindy. I know in my heart that Ashlyn’s salvation story is just the beginning. God has plans for this young lady, and I know He is going to deliver her family too.

Please pray with me for this young woman and her mother.
