I am trying to find my blogger identity. Have you been here? I want to write about politics, but I also want to write about being a mom. I want to write about facing a life altering illness that has lead me down this road to blogging. I have so many goals for this new year. I have to find focus and create a master plan for myself; or should I call it a strategic plan?
First goal for the new year is to determine what I want to write about as a blogger. Second goal is to establish a second, but more creative blog and keep this one political and issue orientated? I want to explore creative nonfiction and also poetry. I want to continue to work on novels I have in the works but have never finished. These stories sit in my mind and on scraps of paper buried in literal file boxes stored in my room.
To help me in my quest to find my identity as a blogger, I have signed up for the Blogging from A to Z Challenge for April 2013. Started by Arlee Bird in 2010, the A to Z Challenge has grown to a much anticipated event every year. My new connection on Linked, Arlee Bird, blogger of Tossing it Out, has been very helpful in my quest so far. He has given great feedback.
Thanks to all that have been reading and following my blog thus far. I want to succeed as a blogger. I want to create a forum for discussion and discovery. I hope my followers will continue to offer feedback and support. I am going to really work hard this weekend on a schedule and strategic plan. What do you think? When you began your blogs how did you build your readership? I know I have a lot to learn, but I feel very lucky that I have some really successful blogging mentors helping me along the way.
Mary, Mary, Mary…
Whatever you do, DO NOT, under any circumstances, start multiple blogs. At one time I had four blogs and a website and it was a disaster and all of them suffered. I’d just make one site…and write about whatever you want to, when you want to. Despite all the hype, there isn’t any money to be made from them anyhow. It’s just for fun and to keep your pencils sharpened.
Here is my philosophy…if you are having fun and enjoying what you write, then people will enjoy it right along with you. My most popular blog was a now discontinued political satire site. But to do it well, I found myself reading every bill, and every piece of legislation and news from a hundred sources, and then I said…pfft…I’m not having fun anymore, so I quit it! Ha!
Life is short. Enjoy it. Good luck.
