The Mother Letters: A Mother’s Day Book Review

Mother’s Day sped by and I read a special book designed especially for mothers: The Mother Letters by Amber C. Haines and Seth Haines

Motherhood pageantry and beauty meets reality often. We mothers mire ourselves in the day to day worries of house cleaning, laundry and getting children off to school.

Amber and Seth  capture the laughter, joy, struggles, and hopes of motherhood. I loved this beautifully bound book featuring letters written to moms everywhere by today’s top women authors and bloggers.

The authors packed the book with simple messages of hope written to inspire moms everywhere. Some of my favorites included the simple reminder by Ann Kroeker who reminded us that motherhood passes in the blink of an eye. She shared this simple advice:

“We all know that they grow up fast. All the more reason to slow down.”

Then Katie Meyering wrote that we should remember that:

“Each day brings its own small delights that eventually contribute to the great victory of seeing our children grow up.

Stephanie Bryant shared about the importance of Patience as a mom.

She writes: “God’s infinite time is not like ours,” and “Love is first of all patient.” She reminds us not to pray for patience, but for the “One who gives patience.” He is the One we need. “Patience is fruit from Him.”

Stephanie Precourt reminded us that we will have days that we feel like failures as moms, but:

“In the eyes, heart, and mind of your child, you are super mom.”

Of course, super mom status takes a back seat when your children reach the teen years, but this back-seat status is just a stage. You will soon be a best friend helping them select dorm room bedding and a smart phone.

What I loved about this book is that no matter the stage you are in as a mom, you can find a special message that the authors seem to have written just to you. It happened over and over again for me as I read each chapter.

I meant to write this review before Mother’s Day, but mothering through softball games, special tests, and sickness took center stage.

Mother’s Day may have passed, but I still recommend this book to all mothers. Perhaps you have a baby shower to attend or know a graduating mom. This book is a perfect gift to a mother you know about to have a birthday too.
