Mercy

Mercy and music. My life seems to be a continuous song
There is a song my daughters used to sing in our church:
Mercy Walked In
Mercy: an act of forgiveness or forbearance of punishment deserved.
Jesus died to bring us the ultimate mercy
A place in heaven with Him and His Heavenly Father
Jesus’s mercy is example to all of us
To follow and exemplify
So hard to follow this example in today’s chaotic world
Little children are gased in their homes, victim of criminal warfare
Both sides of the conflict in Syria point to the other
In the US, 12 years ago two towers fell
Americans cried for vengence not mercy
Mercy: love of a Holy God brought to
Bear on a lonely cross
The cross is feared by the unrighteous
But it was a simple statement.
Father, “Forgive them, they know not what they do.”
All of mankind does not know what it does
when innocents are killed, maimed or tortured
But we must have mercy for the killers, torturers and maimers too
Turn the other cheek
Pray for those who spitefully use us.
Jesus’s own words of mercy
Mercy walked in and pleaded my case
I deserved eternal damnation
But Jesus brought His grace

Hi Mary! What a powerful post, and a powerful challenge to be merciful to the enemy. That’s where the rubber hits the road, right?
Turning the other cheek is a real challenge, for me and for nations. How we need our Father and to be his love and mercy to the world today! Jesus was ready and willing to die for mercy. That’s our model and leader at work.
And that’s a big challenge too.

Thank you for sharing this. Your words are beautiful poetry that desrcibe how paradoxical mercy seems in the word today. Extending mercy can be so hard to do, and yet when we extend mercy we ourselves are the ones freed. I am stopping by from five minute friday. Have a lovely weekend!
