#LMMLinkup: Enjoying Summer Reading

July 17, 2016 By Mary Hill 5 Comments

Welcome back to Literacy Musing Mondays: your place for all things related to literacy, reading, writing, and blogging. We have a special write up from our host Leslie  who writes about enjoying summer reading. I hope you will enjoy.

Five Reasons I Am Enjoying Summer Reading

The sun is hot, the pool is cool, and summer reading emphases for kids are in full swing. (If you’re still looking for cool kids’ reading programs with prizes, click here.) Water fun and books have always mixed well for me (except for that one time the baby actually threw his book in the pool), so in our home kids aren’t the only ones reading.Beaches and fiction. Pools and fiction. The word FUN should suffice here.

Summertime is a great time for me to learn new skills. Without the pressure of daily homeschooling my children, I have more time to pursue my own interests and learn to do something new through nonfiction.

Reading sets a good example for my kids. When they see me reading, they internalize the message that reading is a lifelong pursuit.
Summertime car trips provide the perfect opportunity for enjoying audio books as a family.
Reading the Bible and other inspirational books draw me closer to Jesus.

What about you? How are enjoying your summer reading this year?

I am a devoted wife, mother of three great kids and, most importantly, a follower of Jesus Christ. I love long summer days, photography and stealing quiet moments for writing. Connect with on my blog, Forever Joyful, or on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.

I love reading and summer is the season where I finally feel I have the time to read. My boys are old enough that I don’t have to watch them every minute that they are in the water and yet I do like to sit outside so I can hear if they need help; I get to read a book every day or two! With frequent field trips and drives to the beach we’re re-listening to our favorite books on CD in the car and we spend many a lunch reading aloud from a family chapter book.

It’s really nice to catch up on our reading for the summer. I’ve just discovered while revisiting my 2016 goals that I’m beyond my number of books target. 😀

Every season has its special connection to reading, doesn’t it? I loved reading your thoughts (and smiled about the book into the pool debacle!).
